The purpose of this post is to get some information on tradition and history of our new 3A counterparts. Most of yall have some idea of who we are(WOS)now I want to know who yall are. Some things mentioned could be enrollment, championships, arch rivals, ect. Just fishing for some info.

Lucky for you I have some info sitting right in front of me so here is some info on Sinton. Our enrollment numbers (according to DCTF mag) is 617. We are the largest school in our district (30-3A). Our district rivals are the Mathis Pirates. We lost the district championship to them back in 1999 (I think that is the year they made it to the State final game). That loss really stung, but since then we have not lost a district game. The past couple of years the Sinton-Mathis game has been our last district game, but not this year. Another rivarly is with our neighbors Odem & Taft. They are both now 2A schools, but the rivarly still exists. Since Odem has dropped to 2A we have not played them. :( This will be Taft's first year in 2A and our home opener will be against them and they always come ready to play us. :D Should be fun!!

Since 1932 we have won 22 district titles, we have 4 state-semi final apperances ('59,'62, '90 & '01), 1 state final apperance ('01) and have been in the region (IV) finals 10 times (59, 62, 63, 90, 91, 92, 00, 01, 02 and 03).

We have a great senior bunch this year and I hope they can once again make it to the region finals, but this year I hope we can advance to the state semi-final round!! :)

Hope this helps in your quest for info about some other teams.

I think Sinton may have been a 4A team back in the day, but I'm not sure. Maybe one of the older :D fans from Sinton can better answer that question!! ha/ha :D

I moved back to town in 2001 so I was introduced to the winning ways of the Pirates and expect nothing but WINS!! :D Hopefully they can keep up the tradition. Good luck to your team and welcome to the board!

Fairfield is a pretty small 3a school with an enrollment of 508 (estimate from last year)We are the 4th smallest school in a 5 team district so we will be going d2.Our new district alignment put us in a 5 team district with Mexia(largest school) Marlin Groesbeck Madisonville. Fairfield has made 2 consecutive playoff appearences. In 2002 Fairfield lost 10-7 to belleville in the 3rd round in a great game finishing the season 11-2(second in district). Last year the Eagles finished 8-3 and in a 4 way tie for the district championship. The team was rattled by injuries last year. They lost pretty bad to newton in the first round. This year looks to be a pretty good team picked 3rd in the district. one of the main returning players is all everything kyle lightsey, who only played 6 games last year due to a very servere knee injury. Our rival is Teague(dropped to 2a) but we do not play them this year. Other returning players are Jeff Krieg, JJ Brackens, and Keith Jones. Fairfield will have a new starter this year with the QB for the previous 4 seasons graduating(Chance Elliot)who will be replaced by David Skinner. The JV was 10-0 last year with some promising Varsity players. It should be a fun season to watch. In the history of the football program Fairfield has never won a state title. The closest they have come was in 1991 when they lost to eventual state champion Groesbeck 34-0 who they had beat rather easily in district play. I would tell ya more about that but im not really old enough to remember.

Cuero Gobblers hail from a ranching community 25 Miles northwest of Victoria. It is the second largest school in the district with 698 students. The Gobblers have a long a storied history in the old 3A class which is now the present day 4A. Most of the records you see were built against the 4A seen today. They played the teams the likes of Ennis, Judson, Kerrville,Calallen and others that you read about.

In 1982 the Gobblers dropped down to 3A. When the oilfield went bust so the the population around here.
The gobblers have won 3 State championships in 73, 74, and 87.Have been to the state Finals 9 times 70, 73, 74,75,85,86,87,93, and 98. Been to the Semi-Finals 10 times losing only once to a Region 3 team , Sealy in 1995.
The Gobblers have won 23 district championships: 28, 38,41,42, 51, 57,70,73,74,75, 83,84, 85, 86, 87, 90, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 00, 02 tie 3 ways, and 2003.

Some of the records Cuero held were:
Longest win streak 3rd alltime 44 games 1973 to 1975.
Games won in a season with out Loss: 50 wins 1970 to 1975

I have been working on finding out Cuero total win loss records but need a few missing years to complete.
As of right now it stands: 574 wins, 233 losses, and 19 ties.

Sinton did one stint in 4A back in the '80's. But since then and probably from now on, it's 3A. Collier-sharp has some of the teams' history.

The biggest thing I remember about Cuero was Robert Straight in the 80's. I remember an article with him and the "Sugar Land Express". He went on to play for Baylor and at that time was one of their biggest recruits ever. I also remember he was a very big guy.

Sabine Pass Sharks. A very small 1A school, but I though variety would be ok. Estimated enrollment 50 students 9-12 grade. The Sharks have not played district football since 1991 when it was suspended from UIL play due to cancellation of district games. The games were cancelled because they couldn't fill a roster. The Sharks only playoff experience came in 1983 where they lost in the second round to Italy. Blowing a 19-0 halftime lead to a 22-19 final. The sharks were ranked #6 in the A.P. poll in 83 and was the only top 10 ranking ever recieved. The Sharks have only had one athlete go d1 in football. Chad Finch a 83 graduate who is currently ranked #5 for the all time career receptions in texas hs football with 204 form 1980-83. The Sabine Pass sharks largest team was 23 and the smallest was 11. The school board proposed to the uil, to become 6 man in 1995. It was denied becuase the lack of 6 man teams in the area. Sabine Pass is located 40 miles north of Galveston.

The Hondo Owls are ranked #1 in class 3A for most playoff appearrences. The have won at least or more than 25 district titles (Not Sure). Out of all other classifications in football Hondo is ranked #3 for most playoff appearreances. Hondo has had some good runs at state but has come up short. But no matter what Hondo tradition is one of the best in the state. Good luck owls in 2004.

The 70's were lean years for Jasper. That's when only district champs made the playoffs though.Ya'll have rebounded real nice.

I'm guessing that was because of Hebert? They were a real thorn in our side... kind of like WOS! :D

Hebert had some good teams back then and so did Jasper.Jasper just couldn't seem to beat them.I think Jasper could have gone real deep in the playoffs if they would have.

They can say what they want in Beaumont, but Hebert has been raised from the ashes.....It's called Beaumont Ozen.:D
