Tragedy struck in Burnet Saturday Night, July 10th, when Joseph Edward Abernathy died of smoke inhalation in a fire at the Abernathy home in Burnet. Joe Ed was the son of Burnet's former Head Coach Ed Abernathy, who coached Burnet for many years and took them to their 1st State Finals Game in 1991 and his mother was a long time P. E. Coach in Burnet Jr. High until their retirement several years ago. They are as fine of people as you could ever hope to meet.
Joe Ed Abernathy was a very wonderful young man and was to begin a coaching job this fall in Burnet. Many of the atheletes here in Burnet had gotten to know him during the last couple of months and are very saddened and shocked by the tragedy.
The funeral will be held at 10:00am Wednsday, July 14 at the 1st Baptist Church in Burnet. Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet is handling the arrangements.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Abernathy family at this time of saddness.
