i have a very old antique gold necklace with 13 diamonds. I would like to have the gold melted down and made into a ring with the diamonds...

what is the best way to go about this. I know someone out there should know!

make a written document of your ownership of the ring, how man karrots it is, how many diamonds, it contains, the type of gold, and the weight of it.

Don't do anything until you hear from me in a PM. I will send you a name of an honest person tomorrow, when I am not to tired to dig it up.

I know Sans has you taken care of....but that reminded me of a little story.

When my husband and I got engaged, we took our wedding rings in from our previous marriages and had those melted down and made into our NEW wedding rings! D

I had my Dad's (No longer with us) ring melted down & made into my ring. It holds a sentimental value to me other than just a wedding ring. ;)

Not at all....I just showed him what I wanted it to look like in the end and it did.

I ended up having to bring a gold chain in that I had because I needed more gold, and was too cheap to just buy it!

The place I went had all kinds of molds you could look at to decide what kind of ring (or other jewelry) you wanted!

kaorder,

I am trying to find my friends number right now. Just to answer your question about the process. The best way to get what you want is thru a process called "lost wax".

The jewler will carve the design you want in wax, and then will make an exact mold using the wax sculpture. It is a very common practice, and is not too expensive if you find the right jewler, which is what I am trying to help you do.:D

you could just sell the gold for its value and use the money to buy something already made...

There is a kind of laser or light that can be shot through the diamond to tell if its real. Most jewlers should have one.

After my divorce, I had my wedding ring made in to heart-shape diamond earrings for my daughter. They are very special to her and something that she will treasure for the rest of her life.
