What are your top 5 regular season matchups? You can list just one, or all five. This is not a contest, I'm just trying to find out the most anticipated matchups. I know about the Jasper/WOS matchup in 0 week, but what are some more?

Sinton/Mathis is always a good one.

Yeah, Sosa went to Beeville. We play them too. I don't know what Mathis has coming back, but they always get up as much as they can for us. Sinton/Cuero should be a good one. Hopefully we can get started a little earlier this year than last. We got 9 O's and 6 D's coming back, we should be ok. Freshman team went 9-1 too.

My top 5 regular season match ups

Sinton - Gregory-Porland. Two teams that are always contenders in their respective classes. Always a heated contest.

Sinton-Cuero. This is turning out to be a very good friendly rivalry .

Yoakum-West Columbia. W-C drops down from 4A. We will see if Yoakum gives them a big welcome.

WO-S-Jasper. Two great teams with alot of tradition renewing an old rivalry. Should be the game of the week.

Port Isabel-Los Fresnos. 3A school against a 5A. I love it when these two play. Go Tarpons. :)

Vernon - Abilene Wylie two very good teams with tradition out of Region I. Both have key offensive players coming back.

Abilene Wylie and Sweetwater during district play should be a good matchup. Sweetwater has made some good playoff runs and their underclassmen had some talent last year, including an outstanding Freshman team.

Graham vs. Marlin in pre-district is a very interesting game.
Marlin has a long yellow dog ride over to Graham for this one.
Marlin has been a very good team over the past few years, and Graham always dominates in district but has never seen victory in the playoffs since the late 90's.

I don't know if this falls in the top 5 but Barbers Hill will face Diboll. BH has never played Diboll this should be a good game with a play off atmosphere. The game is at BH

I'm not sure about other schools, but Kennedale vs. Everman and Kennedale vs. Bridgeport will both be good.

Bellville vs. Marlin

2 playoff thrillers previous 2 years, should provide another good one.

Beaumont Central
Nederland
Newton (#2 in 2a)

Maybe in the future, WOS could swap out PNG for Central. Or maybe we can add Hull-Daisetta!

That's a great schedule and a good indicator of whether Jasper is capable of the success it's had the past few years. How many wins should we expect out of those five games? I'm gonna be optimistic and say 4-1, but 3-2 wouldn't shock me at all. Those are all exceptional teams.

Last year:
Beaumont Central, made the 4a Region III finals, lost to Bay City by only 3-13, .
PN-G, a couple rounds into the 4a playoffs.
WO-S, should have made the 4a playoffs except for tie breaker.
Newton, 2 rounds into the 3a playoffs
and Bridge City. Enough said.

Who do you see Jasper beating for their 3 or 4 wins? They must have their act together to handle this schedule. And hope they have some bodies left for district. :)

I'm thinking people might have a skewed view of WO-S when district starts as well.
We play Jasper (enough said), Bay City (4A state finalist), Nederland (4a team three rounds in last year), Beaumont Central (see jdog's post) and Newton (again - jdog's post). We could very well have two or three losses.
Bay City has been a perennial state finalist in 4a, but we've been the biggest thorn in their sides, beating them three of the last four years - including their state title year in 2000 and finalist year last year. I'm SO pumped about that game.
Can't wait for Jasper either!!!

I just realized that we play three DCTF Top 3 teams in our preseason - Bay City #3 4A, Jasper #2 3A and Newton #2 2A. Also Nederland is #19 4A. What a year this is gonna be!

WOS1

Wow 92, when you put it that way, I'm not sure if I like this tough a preseason or not.

Jasper (3A state semi-finalist)- 4 playoff games
Bay city (4A state finalist)- 6 playoff games
Nederland (4A regional semi-finalist)- 3 playoff games
Central (4A regional finalist)- 3 playoff games
Newton (2 rounds deep)- 2 playoff games

Think about it, our 5 predistrict opponents played a combined 18 playoff games last year!!

Well we could be either 5-0 or 2-3 at worst I think. 5-0 would be pretty hard to do,but doable. 2-3 is slim.I think 3-2 might be closer.Anyway I like it...going to be some good games. You know, Dan never did like the idea of playing just weak teams.

By the time it's all said and done, both Jasper and WO-S could be out of the top 10 by the time district rolls around. But both teams (barring injury) will be better for it come playoff time.

Well, if we manage to beat Bay City, which we've done three of the last four years, it should at least keep us hovering in the top 10, even if we have two losses. Of course, that depends on if Bay City lives up to their ranking and legacy.
God, I love being a thorn in their sides :D

It's going to be a great game, but I'm afraid we're going to have to disappoint yall once again :D jk I'm looking forward to it as well!:)

No offense taken! You know you're my favorite Burnet fan. :)

But for the record, we lost a LOT of the defense (including my oldest son :( ) but the offense is mostly the same.

And I agree - should make a great game as it always is. Best of luck to y'all in 4A this year!

"Building the Tradition" Your right it should be a great game, and the atmosphere will be it's normal electric self. I think we'll do fine in 4A. We will probably have some growing pains this year, but the next 2 years we should be really good. We have some very talented kids coming up the next few years. If we don't make the playoffs, or are knocked out early, you know I'll be there supporting the Panthers. :)
