I'm really surprised they put the Mustangs at #1 when Gainsville has practically their whole championship team coming back! That week 0 matchup should be one for the ages!

No matter what happens, either Jasper or WO-S will be considered overrated after that game. Also consider that both Marlin and Atlanta last year had 4 losses, but made it all the way to the championship game. After all, it's just the first game of the season. That said, I'm sure that both teams will bring all they've got to the table. I hope this resumes what's been a great rivalry.

Why would we be? It's just a poll and it's a justifiable reason of why they have you #1 and not Gainesville.

In all fairness

Gainesville is number one until beaten. They won the title last year with mostly juniors. They lose McBath, but return Purvey. I can appreciate the respect that WOS is getting, but to be ranked number one in a leauge that you have not played in just seems wrong. Top five, you bet.

WOS at number one, is a slap in the face to Gainesville. I am sure that most of the Gainesville fans are happy that WOS has the target, but it's still not right.

To be perfectly honest, they can have the #1 spot. We certainly have enough of a target painted on us with all the hype as it is.

And that could happen to us too. We play #3 Jasper in week 0.

I guess the makers of the poll could be looking back in history when they came up with that. In 1986, when we dropped to 4A we started the season at #1. We lost 2 games during the season but we did wind up winning it all but that was a long time ago.

No one on this board loves the Leps more than me but I just can't see the Leps ranked this high preseason. The Leps have a lot of skilled guys back and will be a strong team but there are too many questions to rank them this high preseason. For example they need to fill three OL positions and probably will rely on one or two sophomores to come up. The Qb will probably be Kyle Daniels, who has tons of speed(4.4), and with Hernandez (4.5) at tailback, this could be one of the fastest combinations on the option in 3A. The passing game will be a question as Daniels doesn't have the arm that Anderle had, but he may surprise folks on play action passes, as the secondary will have to respect the run. Of course he will have two excellent receivers back, including all district Minzenmeyer and fullback Ulrich. I guess we will get an idea of how good the Leps are after the first 3 games: Cuero, Sealy and Gonzales (in the AlamoDome). The Leps have not won an opener in the past 4 seasons losing to Bay City in 2000 , 2001 and Yoakum in 2002 and 2003. Hopefully. the fact that the Leps will have three scrimages instead of only two before the opener will give them the needed momentum to go into week one a winner (they have won the second game in the past 5 seasons). If I were to rank the Leps in preseason I would have them at 17 or 18 until they beat a few good teams. Go Leps, prove me wrong!!!:D

It really comes down to faith when you get into preseason polls doesn't it? I hope yall prove me wrong but 6th seems too high for the reasons I gave. The Leps have surprised folks before, such asin 2002 when they went 11-2 with only 13 returning from the 2001 Finalist team. Good luck, Tanner, I know you will give it your full measure.:)

I understand what kind of athlete Huffman is. He is a great RB, but what else do they have? They lost the entire OL, their only DB(Spears), and their QB. Top 40; yes. Top 5; I don't think so

Yes, we have Huffman, and we have some great kids coming up to fill the empty spots along with some returning Varsity starters.
JV was undefeated last season and they will do an outstanding job on Varsity, as well. As for the QB, Stuart Ray filled the spot when Moore went out during the season with an injury and did an outstanding job. Remained QB throughout the rest of the season and the playoffs and will be the starter this year. Rice is still a powerhouse in 3a, like it or not. These kids are finally getting the respect they deserve.

I will agree with that 92.Like I said,this is just one of many polls yet to come.We know what we are in for with some good teams to play and it don't matter where your ranked but where you finish.....Makes for some good football talk though.
