If you were the Mavericks and the Lakers offered you O'Neal but in return they wanted Dirk, would you do it?

i'd keep dirk offer either nash or finley and trade the other to orlando for t-mac. Nelson himself said how he would like to keep both Dirk and Daniels on the team. Upgrading the big three from finley-nash-dirk to mcgrady-o'neil-dirk sounds better to me.

No, Dirk has said that if Nash leaves he leaves to

There is no way that the Mavs could get TMac and Shaq without getting rid of Dirk.

True, but if The Mavs get rid of the big 3 that might could also hurt their fanbase

I dont think it would hurt the fan base at all. If they brought in Shaq, the fan base would increase IMO.

I would make that trade. The Mav's need some kind of defence and Shaq would be perfect to start it with.

Finely for O'Neal, dont we wish. I dont think the Lakers are that dumb.

Please dont send Dirk to LA, unless its to the Clippers. None of those players would be a good trade for Shaq. I can only think of two players in the league I would trade for Shaq, and thats Duncan or James. I have a feeeling O'neal will still be in LA. Things will cool down.

Some of you kids are probably not old enough to remember. But when Shaq first came into the leauge, Don Carter did all but spike the punch in the draft to try and make him a Maverick first.

I have heard a story about the Mavericks and Shaq when he came out of college. If I remember right, if Dallas would have lost thier last game (a meaningless game) they would have most likely earned the first round pic, and would have got O'Neal. They ended up winning the game, and the rest is history. One of you older folks tell me how acurate this is.

Id do Dirk for Oneal everyday. Do you want to be a good team for 10 years....or win a championship in a couple? Dirk will never lead a team to a championship. Oneal may be aging....but hes still the most dominant player since Wilt. I dont think T-Mac would offer anything that we dont already have...but if you can keep Daniels and Howard and get shaq....you would win a championship in 2 or 3 years IMO. BRING IN THA DIESEL!!!!

i dont think anyone "earns" the number 1 pick in basketball....since its a lottery. You may have better odds, but still.

Showtime33

Yeah, in 92 there isnt a team in the league that didnt want Shaq. He was the best player in the draft hands down and everyone knew it.

Your right, the basketball draft is wierd, but some teams have more balls in the lottery, right?

vfunk
06-21-2004, 06:26 PM
yeah....which makes for better odds...but only one ball pops out....know what i mean?

wildstangs

Yeah I get what your saying. So had the Mavs lost that game, they would have had one more ball in there, but still could have not been the first pick.

mavs fans have been crying and whining about needing a big man for years. They HAVE to go after Shaq. If fans have something against going after him you forfeit your "we need a big man argument" forever!!!

Old Tiger

Shaq is more dominant than Dirk

kaorder1999

yes he is...shaq scores a little more...rebounds a little more and plays a LOT more defense

No, I wouldn't trade Shaq for Dirk. Hell, if I were 7' plus and 340 lbs. I could play as good as Shaq anyday of the week. If they have T-Mac along with Nash and Dirk, they could win a championship easily.

It would be a wise trade.

i wouldnt trade dirk for shaq, to me the mavs have always(in recent years) been more of a team player, throwin a big guy like him in the mix i think would mess up the rotation.

IMHO, don't trade ANYONE for Shaq. I personally cannot stand him, but I am a huge Maverick fan so if they get him, I'm sure I'll be on the band wagon, just don't get rid of Dirk!!

Looks like the TMac to Houston trade is all but done. Word is though that if and when the trade goes through, Steve Francis is going to demand a trade because he said he will not play for Orlando. Will the Mavs be interested in the Francise and try and make a move for him?

I wouldn't give up Dirk for Shaq either. But speaking of drafts I remember in 1969 everyone was wondering who would win the O.J. Simpson Bowl and the Eagles had one last game to play and if they lost they would have got O.J. Of course at that time they couldn't do anything right and they pulled off an upset and hence lost O.J. to the Bills.

Or the Dallas Cowboys pulling a con in getting the rights to draft Tony Dossett in 1977. The Cowboys actually traded someone to get the No. 2 choice and Tampa Bay still had the first choice but their coach had been at USC and chose a player he had coached there (a mistake he later admitted I think) and so the Cowboys got Dorsett on the No. 2 pick and had many great years of service from him and he contributed to their super bowl win in 1977.

Speaking of the Cowboys I remember back in 1988, I think it was the last game of the season and the Cowboys were playing the Packers. Both teams had the same record going into the game and which ever team lost the game would end up with the 1st pick in the draft. Well Green Bay won the game so they ended up with the second pick and drafted tackle Tony Mandarich out of Michican St. while the Cowboys got the first pick and drafted some kid out of UCLA named Aikman. Just makes you wonder what if the Cowboys would have lost that game and Aikman would have went to Green Bay?

Sure glad the Cowboys got Aikman but I have to admit I really thought that Mandarich would be the most dominating lineman in recent history. What a waste.
