Your Dark Horse pick should be a team that will not make the top 20 in most legitimate pre-season polls, but you feel is a team that has a good outside chance at making a run for the ring this year.

Here is mine.

New Boston

While the Lions will find themselves in arguably the toughest district in Texas 3A (district 14 which includes Atlanta, Daingerfield, Jefferson, Liberty-Eylau, and Pleasant Grove). I think if they can capture a playoff spot, and somehow get lucky and avoid Gilmer in round one, they may get on a roll and make a run.

From what I have read that new Ranchview school will be a force for the next two years.

West Columbia. For the longest time, they were a force to deal with in the 4A ranks. Despite a dwindling student population, they did still manage to make the playoffs every now and again.

Now that they are in Class 3A with schools more their size, I think that the Roughnecks will do some damage.

Newton. Since they dropped to the 2A ranks, no one in 3A will expect it. Then, when no one is looking, AHA! :p

Barbers Hill will lose first round to WO-S. I would have to nominate Carrollton Ranchview as the darkhorse. I heard they had 8 DI prospects

Maybe I should have put Kirbyville as my darkhorse! It seems that several people are suggesting that they are going to be a big surprise.

Wharton - The are consistently one of the fastest teams in the state and always talented at the skill positions. I feel that although they graduated some significant individual talent, getting rid of some of the "me first" attitudes they had in their locker room will make them a better team. Also not having to run into the Burnet roadblock like they did in round #2 the past two years wont hurt. They wont be in any top 20 polls but I feel they could take region 4 and then make a run at the title with a little luck.

my honest opinion... the road to a Region IV Title runs through Sinton.

Assuming Cuero goes div. 2 with Gonzales making the playoffs, right?;)

What about Palestine? I haven't heard much about them. With the drop from 4A they could be a sleeper

This year Port Isabel, the D2 Region 4 Champs, have the chance of going D1...that would be an excellent matchup for Sinton. I think I remember hearing that the last time yall met was in 97 Port Isabel 40 Sinton 20, am I right and what do yall think of that matchup?

I think if Cuero were to go to D1 and have to face Sinton it'd be a toss up... Or would it? I guess we'll get a 'little' idea before district begins eh?

From what I've seen and what you guys have coming back, you guys will be pretty salty...
