Thanks for the honorable mention Old Cardinal. I think the Leps are going to surprise a lot of people next year :D .

THSF has Midland Greenwood at 28, so maybe they lost a lot of people.

Kirbyville? Didn't know they were top 10 calibur! I think Palestine may surprise some people

I appreciate you including Sinton on your list, OC. I agree, they should be in the top 10 and will most likely be in the final eight.

It's pretty good, except I think you have Gainesville ranked to low.

I too am confused about Kirbyville. I've noticed them in another list on this site. I thought they were traditionally pretty abysmal. Winds of change? What's up?

In my humble opinion Kirbyville has been threatening for several years. They have some real sanity, savvy, and skilled Coaches up there. I believe that this season will be the very best football team that Kirbyville has ever produced....Sure it's a wild card prediction; however, things don't remain Status Quo in the football favorites from year to year.....I saw someone was downing Marlin on not being a good team---I beg to differ; I drove 6 hours(round trip) up to watch Newton play Marlin at Nacogdoches in the post season last fall. They are a solid football program and will do extremely well this year, base on the ongoing program and their number of returnees.
Believe me I was not high on either of these teams, not too long ago, but going in to this season I think both of their Coaching crews will make a monkey out of some of the other Coaching that I have seen.

Marlin has an excellent football program. I don't care what anyone says. They continually go deep in the playoffs and have great athletes

I agree with OC, Kirbyville just may be poised to surprise some folks. The coach had to rebuild the program, and Wildcat confidence. They are ready for a break-through as they now should be a senior dominated team.

OC put Kirbyville in his poll, becasue I put them in mine:D

He knows a smart man when he sees one, as long as that man is not putting a DFW team in the top ten.

I think Kirbyville will be improved but not top 10 material!
Maybe top 25

Probably the same time you saw Gainesville, Atlanta, Lindale, and Kennedale play.

Thanks for putting Kennedale in the top 10. Something I don't get to see as often as I would like.:D

You left out Vernon.

The Lions will be in the second year of both the offense and defensive systems. They have all their skill players back on Offense (QB, RB, & FB) They have a ton of players returning that saw considerable playing time last year that will not be counted as a starter from last year. They have more size on the O-line than last and their secondary that was one of the best in the state last year will return two of them. A third got playing time and will pick up where the senior of last year left off. This Vernon team will be a better team than the team last year that won Region I. They have a serious shot at a state championship. To leave them out of a top 10 would be a mistake.

I would LOVE to get to play Vernon again. Last year, that was one of the most fun games all season. If we met up again, we would make sure the outcome would be quite different

Kennedale intrigues me some.......I want to see what they do this year.....there's still some talent there....but I'm not sure they'll be quite what they were the past 2 years...their JV group didn't impress me much...but the group that will be sophmores this year....WATCH OUT.......they were real, real good...

catdad
06-22-2004, 11:10 AM
matt,
what you didn't see from the JV last was due somewhat to them being split up quite a bit. you had a few key players that moved up to Varsity and saw limited playing time. most of those guys have been together since pee wee and when they pull back together this year i think you will see how much heart and determination there is there.

Matthew328
06-22-2004, 11:12 AM
Could be....I'll take that into account for sure.....but like I said if Kennedale stays in 3A in a year or two they'll be contenders for a state title for sure...that class that'll be soph's is really strong..

catdad
06-22-2004, 01:46 PM
definitly. The upcoming soph's are strong. I look for a good amount of those guys to see major varsity playing time this year.

Old Card what about Wylie or Sweetwater?

Old Cardinal
06-23-2004, 12:01 PM
I don't know???Don't you think Snyder might have a slight edge over Sweetwater this year in 3-3A???
I think that maybe Ballinger, Vernon, Graham and even Monahans have an edge over Abilene Wylie....Time will tell....

oh well
06-23-2004, 04:54 PM
Old Card. not that i disagree with you just wanted to know what you base your info on. Snyder, Sweetwater & Wylie are in the same District. I know a lot about both teams just wanted some more info

lobo12
06-23-2004, 05:31 PM
i am pretty sure that snyder lost a lot of seniors last year. i dont know anything about their underclassmen or jv but they should still field a solid team. monahans should have a good team returning 8 starters on offense which put up 30 pts a game in district but only 4 back on defense.

wildstangs
06-23-2004, 10:19 PM
Old Card, Ballinger dropped to 2A. Sweetwater, Snyder, and Wylie are all in the same district. Should be a tough fight. I think the district title will come down to the Sweetwater - Wylie match, with Snyder taking third, though I am not counting out Merkel yet. Gotta see how their new coach does in non district before I make that bold of a prediction.

wildstangs
06-23-2004, 10:20 PM
I think Monahans will be pretty good. Defending district champs. Gonna be a tough road in the big school division though with Wylie and Gainesville in Region 1.

oh well
06-24-2004, 08:53 AM
wildstangs are you saying Merkel will fight it out with Snyder for the 3rd spot? Sweetwater could have the District won after the first 2 District Ball games. Wylie then Snyder that should not be a problem right

lobo12
06-24-2004, 10:24 AM
im not sure that if monahans goes to the playoffs we will be big school. out of the schools in our district we are the 3rd smallest with greenwood and seminole below us. if ft stockton pecos or lamesa make the playoffs we will be small school. small school is no easy bracket either

oh well
06-24-2004, 01:26 PM
Old Card are you still there????

Old Cardinal
06-24-2004, 04:42 PM
Yes, I am still here.....It looks like there will be a strong 3A competitive District out there.....I talked to a friend from Newton and he thought that maybe Newton will play Ballinger for the State Championhip in 2A...It is quite possible that Newton will end up Division II in 2A ball, a higher enrollment school came down into the same 2A District with them---incredible!

oh well
06-24-2004, 05:50 PM
You are right I know Ballinger has a strong Soph. class and a school with a lot of trad. They have been playing sweetwater, Merkel, Clyde and Wylie so that has to help in 2A. Dist 3-3A should be a cat fight. sweetwater has to play Wylie then Snyder back to back that will be close to playoff type atmosphere. Do you have any more info on the teams of this District.

wildstangs
06-24-2004, 08:16 PM
I think Merkel has a shot at beating Snyder. Just speculation now though. Only thing we know now is that one good team will be setting home.

Don't forget about Liberty Hill they're returning everyone.

Sweetwater is loaded at Quarterback. Their back up QB played all five district games going undefeated. The third string QB led the team to a victory against Perryton. Both played in the 6-3 loss to Vernon. Both will be back. Wylie and Merkel both have very good QB's returning next year as well. I dont know about Clyde. I think last year was supposed to be their big year. They had a huge letdown after they knocked off Wylie.

IF this trend travels through the DCTF and AP rankings we will be eligible for Dark Horse discussions...

What about Liberty, Not LIberty HIll, but Liberty, They were undefeated last year, and beat barbers HIll,

Why is Barbers HIll given the nod over Liberty. I do respect BH, you have to when you play them every year, and they are a talented Team, but why the nod over Liberty?

06-26-2004, 09:48 PM
wildstang do you play for sweetwater. Merkel lost a lot of starters didn't they? Wylie lost some on defense as well. who won between your JV and Wylies?

Buffalo
06-26-2004, 11:02 PM
Merkel returns the District player of the year. Wylie returns the All Big Country QB. Sweetwater returns several skill kids. Not sure what all Clyde has. Snyder should be better

Snyder Fb is back 2 Guards rec on Def return 5. Jv was 9-1 very athletic. Big kids on JV. Beat Wylie JV 27-9 or something like that. They should be better
