I just looked at the next 5 rankings (26-30) and I don't think Cuero should be ranked that low. There is no way there are 25 more teams in 3A that are better than then Gobblers. JMO

Make you own poll then and put them where you want them

Being in the top 40 for the pre-season, when there are over 200 teams is in no way an insult. Everyone has new guys coming up. Some have more leaving than others. Last year Cuero left the playoffs in round one, and the team that beat them (Wharton) got killed in round two. Being as how Cuero lost in round one when there were 96 teams left, and they begin the season at 26 does not seem unfair to me. Maybe you know something some of us don't.

Comments??

Let's see, there are 32 districts in the State. Over 200 teams in the League. Making the top 40 is an honor in my book. There will be over 160 teams that don't make this list at all.

Sorry for bashing his poll but that's just my opinion of Cuero. I think they are going to be a really good team.

Those scores are misleading. Even though they call it a JV schedule Ranchview was playing their Varsity team.

Comments?? Cuero lost in the 2nd round last year not the 1st. Cuero returns a large number of starters from last year and another year under Mark Reeves system so that's probably why S Pirate 9 thinks they will do better this year.

Cuero lost to Warton in round one. If I am wrong, you need to tell me who they beat in round one. Don't just tell me I am wrong. Prove it please.

I am sure most all of those 40 teams will probably do very well.

Sans is right. Cuero lost in round one. Two plays, an interception in the end zone and a quarterback strip return for a touchdown were the difference in the Wharton game. Cuero was a very good team. Ask Sinton. That is why the Sinton posters are giving Cuero respect. Cuero beat them 32-6. 9-1 regular season. Beat a very good Sealy team 44-13. Nine returners on offense. Six on defense. Cuero gets Casey Harryman back this year after missing last year due to a torn ACL . He is the fullback that tore up the world as a freshman and a sophomore. 200 lbs. Benches about 325 lbs. Runs an electronically timed 4.4 40. He was the missing piece of the puzzle last year for Cuero. Cuero's front 5 is as follows: 6'2 415 lbs, 6'2" 360 lbs, 6'-5" 275 lbs., 6'-3" 250 lbs., 5-10" 220 lbs. That's a 304 lb average across the front. The 415 and 360 placed sixth and seventh in state in powerlifting. Three of the five run 5.1 or less. Latrael Cooper is back as a Junior after running for 1,300 yards in just about 8 games as a sophomore. He ran 10.62 100 meters this year in track. Schumacher now knows Reeve system like the back of his hand. Cuero won their pool easily at Lake Travis 7 on 7 before pooping out in the semis and losing it on extra points. Schumacher had elbow surgery a month before two a days last year and didn't begin to get strong until the end of the season. I may be a little opinionated but I think Cuero is legit top 10. We will know after week 2 when we play Wharton. If we are lucky enough to have all of the pieces fall into place, final 8 or final 4 is a real possibility. Size, speed, and skill are coming together all at once.

My point is, that ANY team ranked in a HS top 40 PRE-Season poll could be a legitimate top ten team. There are too many intangibles to know who is going to be the best before the season starts in HS football. Heck one or two studs moving in from out of the area could possible turn any top 40 team into a top 5 team overnight. This is Texas HS Football, and if you are a top 40 consideration before the season begins, you have a good chance at success. And to think you should be ranked higher before the whistle blows, considering the company that you will be in is a little arrogant.

kaorder1999

yeah...anyone on that list could end up being a top 10 team and a top ten team on this list could be sitting at number 40 at the end of the season...

I'd love to see Cuero ranked anywhere below 25, I don't want to see them ranked any higher (though I'd be very happy to see the respect-factor)...

Last year we started 17 players who didn't start the year before...

I knew they'd do good, but didn't expect 9-2... Now they're returning 15 starters from a pretty salty 2003 team and everyone in Cuero just can't wait to see these guys step on the field...

For a while there the attitude of the town was "Can't wait to see if these guys will be any good!" That's changed, we pretty much know the basics of what we're going to see this season...

But I know there are a lot of other great teams across the state... Just can't wait to see it settled on the field...

10th state championship appearance this year? Wouldn't doubt it, but it'll be a tough road...

Good luck to everyone!
