Texas A&M defeated Rice Saturday to send the Owls home for the season by a score of 7-5. The Owls were leading 5-3 going into the 8th inning when the Aggies hit a grand slam to take the lead. With Rice now gone, there will be a new national champion this year.

We made the trip to Reckling, and it was unbelievable! What great games!!! A&M had 2 seniors who have struggled all year step up and deliver clutch hits, Matt Alexander a pinch hit double with two strikes for the injured Austin Boggs, and Justin Ruggiano's grand slam in the bottom of the 8th. What a fun day at the ballpark.

Baseball's a strange game that way. You just never know who's gonna be "hot" or "cold" on any given day. Rice may have been in some kind of slump or something. I really don't think the Aggies were better than the Owls except on this day.

Probably, but we all know that was the only day that mattered.
Old Tiger it really wasn't that big of a 'shocker' seeing as Rice lost their opening game to Texas Southern and had to beat us twice. We had our top 2 pitchers ready for the last day, and we were hitting like we haven't in a month.
Even in the first game, we only got 5 hits I believe, but we had several hard liners right at people. We only lost that game 3-1.
Rice may be better, but championship teams come to play every day, and they didn't against TSU.
And JasperDog, LSU is not a national seed, and do not have the type of powerhouse team they've had in the past, I wouldn't count the Aggies out just yet.

Sorry to hear that. I rather enjoyed the series last year. Little Rice the giant killer.

Old Tiger, you find what you were looking for in that box score? A&M outhit the owls 11-5, and committed the only error of the game that led to Rice's 2-run homer in the 8th.
Another interesting fact that box score doesn't tell you is that the pitchers who threw for A&M were a sophomore, freshman, freshman, and freshman.
