Abilene Wylie always does. They had an exceptionally fast young man on the 2001-2002 team, but I can't remember his name.

John Lampert....went on to get a football scholarship to Purdue. I remember a guy from Andrews (1970's) named Van Pearcy....ran a 400 meter in the 47's, long jumped over 24 feet. Went on to play at Notre Dame and had a few years in the pros at Denver. That guy could fly.

Don't you boys from Bridge City have something to say on this issue?

I "forgot" about Lampert, but the other name just came to me, Tommy Phelps (sp). Does that ring a bell?

Jeremy Wariner runs track for Baylor and is one of the fastest 400M runners in the country. His fastest official time is 44.80, but he ran a 44.3x that was DQed because he stepped out of his lane. He also ran a 20.83 200 this year. He may have run a faster 200 in high school though. Fastest white boy Ive seen run.

They were both burners....I think that Lampert had the faster times but they were both real fast. His name was either Felts or Phelps...I can't remember. Felts really hurt us when we played them in Ballinger his Junior year. We just could not account for his speed and quickness.

To WOS Grad--I don't think a persons race is the determining factor on speed.....Michael Gauthier won the 100 m dash this year. A hispanic youth, the QB for the Fallurias Jerseys, came in first last year with Gauthier a close second...Conditioning has a lot to do with it- I look for Jon Landry of Bridge City to win the 100 m next year and Cody Sparks to win the 200 m and/or the low hurdles.

The runners for Wylie were very strong. Tommy Felts and Lampert were both very fast. In 01 and 02 they ran on a 4x100 that ran high 41's 41.7 from what i can remember. Lampert also Long jumped 25ft and Triple jumped 47 or 48ft. He ran the 100m in 10.3 or 10.4 and the 200m in low 21's. It has also been said that he has run a 47 split in the Mile relay. He was very flexible in his events. It still blows my mind that he went to play football and not pursue track and field. He would have been a very good Heptathlete in college. His football career in college has had some injuries and last season he back up an all-conference player.

And where did I say it was? But since the topic had focused on fast white boys, BC had in Mr. Gauthier someone who ran a Class 3A winning 10.7 100 m at the state meet a couple of weeks back.

Excuse me for trying to give a boy from another local school props. I promise I'll not be so nice to y'all next time!!!
