UGH! Last week, it was around $1.75/gal, 2 days ago it leapt up to $1.85, overnight it's now $1.95!!! I think it's time to tell OPEC to shove it and start buying more oil from Canada and Central America, or using more of our own.

*note that these prices are for 87 octane.

Yes Phil I do have some oil stocks! Suggestions--Get a Conoco Master Card and get a 3% discount on Phillips 66, Union 76 and also Conoco, all on the same card! Also get a Wal-Mart gift card for gas at Murphy USA stations. And yes Phil I bought Murphy USA stock some time back( stock symbol MUR)! Both of these Companies have domestic gasolene sources-not middle east sources....

Poor truckers? They'll transfer those prices to us consumers. Otherwise, they won't be able to afford to keep driving. That's why milk (among other things) is going up.

I think I'm going to write my Congressmen to voice my discontent and ask them to look into pursuing other sources other than than OPEC. I'd encourage everyone to do the same. Maybe we can make a difference. Couldn't hurt to try. We've got nothing to lose but our wallets!

If that one doesn't work, go here:

I hear he(Bush) is using gas as a presidential race strategy. That he is going to lower them right before the race so he will get votes that way. Just what I've heard and I'm not trying to be politicaly correct.

Regular Unleaded in some places in California is $3.19/gallon. Makes me glad to only be paying $1.74, but that's still too high.. How stupid would one be to even live in Cali????

Actually, i think they get paid ____ cents/mile and they pay for the gas. If the company they work for doesn't give them extra to cover the gas increase then they make less.

Why would they protest the prices if they could just pass on the burden?

I heard it was $2.99 in southern cali. Is this true??

It's been around $2.15 here in the Seattle area....but I think cost of living plays a huge part in that like it does a lot of other things.

I think it depends on how the company is set up. Independents probably do get hurt by it. But I doubt truckers who work for trucking companies pay out of their pockets.

Has anyone contacted their congressman yet? I did and it was real easy!

Bush doesn't set the gas prices and has nothing to do with that!

I copied this from another site and found it pretty interesting:

I saw an interesting fact on CNBC Friday that said the price of gas has lagged behind many other products when you factor in the rate of inflation. The per gallon price in 1936, after applying the current value of the dollar and inflation, would have been 1.84. 1952--1.96, and 1970--2.04.

$2.01 IN EAST TEXAS TODAY.....

BIG19

Now figure this one out. When I was stationed in Hawaii, 6 years ago, the price was $1.80 per gallon. There was a .50 tax on every gallon that was sold. The price there now is $2.02 - $2.42. If it was the same ratio for us, we would be seeing much better prices. Any ideas as to why theirs has not gone up as quick as ours has?

lol, wasn't but 6 years ago I paid .49/gallon to fill up (1998) during the great prices of gas.. Anyone remember when they were rock bottom in '98 for a few months??

It seems like prior to that, gasoline stayed at a constant .99 and never moved, now it moves daily..

The price here has scaled back to $1.91 and there are places where I can get it for as "low" as $1.89. But, I'm waiting for the jump to $2.00... I figure it can't be long.

Your right spiveyrat, my husband works for a company and they pay for the fuel. Independents get paid alot more per mile. but pay for their own fuel.

And oil closed yesterday at just over $40. Until yesterday the market had gone down several days in a row, but oil continues to go up everyday.

Oh, in Bryan at Murphy's USA, regular was 1.79, 1.75 with the Walmart discount.

OMG it is still $1.80 in Sinton and I have to put gasoline in my vehicle today. :(
