View Full Version : Spurs VS Lakers in Game 2 tonight at 8

This is another critical game. If San Antonio wins they will be up 2-0 and in great shape as the series is moved to LA. If LA wins they will be 1 - 1 which is what they probably wanted to do in the first two games anyway before the game goes to LA. If the game is close watch to see if some last second critical calls or non-calls to LA's advantage are made by the officials. You know the NBA would prefer LA to advance because they have a bigger fan and tv base. It isn't right but that probably is the way it is.

It is half time and Spurs are ahead 61 to 45. Can SA hold on? Lakers are tough and have the ability to come back. We will see.

Looking bad for the Spurs right now. Lakers are coming back after just a little over a minute in third quarter and the Lakers have cut the lead to 61 - 51. Spurs aren't looking too good right now.

Four called on Duncan. Looked like a very bad call. Are refs at it again for ratings.

The end of the third quarter and Spurs are winning 73 to 68. Lakers have come back strong. Can Spurs hold them off and win? Spurs need to make a big run or Lakers may pull it out. In third quarter Spurs missed too many three pointers.

Lakers now to within four with about 9 minutes left. Shaq is killing the Spurs right now.

I have been talking with some people I know, and we all agree that we are sick of the NBA Officials calls. I am a Lakers fan, but I can see that calls go their way a lot of the time. The foul calling has gotten ridiculous as well. All you have to do is attempt a lay-up in traffic and you are guaranteed to receive a foul.

kaorder1999
05-05-2004, 10:20 PM
its just crazy...but think about it...the more fouls that are called the more times they go to the line...the more times they go to the line, the longer the games last. The longer the games last the more commercials they can run! HMMMMMMM

Spur still ahead by 4 but they are killing themselves with missing three pointers. No telling what will happen.

You called it ka and was close. Good prediction! Spurs hold them off and made a three pointer at a critical time and won. A big advantage for them to be going 2 - 0 at LA. If they can win just one at LA then it would give them a big edge. Lakers will probably be very tough in LA but this two game lead is a big advantage for the Spurs at this point.

Looking at the stats, none of them(the Laker four) had a poor game besides Kobe...
Malone and Shaq played an A to A+ game.
Payton played better than he's played all playoffs.
Kobe had a subpar game... Bowen did play exceptional D!
Parker was lights out!!! Duncan(the best player in the world) took a back seat to Parker tonight. Parker just might be coming into his own. He looks like a future all-pro right now. Unfortunately, Barkley made a bad comment at half-time. He said I wonder how Parker can handle a big hit(not verbatum). I hope the Lakers don't take him to heart...:(

Kobe had a subpar game, again. Bowen had lots to do with that of course. Look for Kobe to "light it up" in game three.
.
The Laker's bench played good but the Spur's bench is "like the other side of the pillow"... cool
 just really cool!:D

That statement is one of the reasons I don't care for Barkley.:(

Phil C
05-06-2004, 08:35 AM
You are right Old. That statement was out of line. TNT needs to reprimand him quietly and if he keeps it up let him go. The shame of it is that he should know better and otherwise he doesn't do a bad job. Anyway thank you for the compliments ka but it got too exciting the last six minutes as usual and I didn't get to do any updates at that critical time but the Spurs held on and won. Shaq was magnificient in defeat but Kobe had an off night which was more to the Spurs outstanding defensive play because we all know Kobe is a great player.

05-06-2004, 08:46 AM
You think that they should let Charles Barkley go for that statement? are you kidding me? That is why he is on the show. This guy says all kinds of things about women officials and commentators. He dogs the refs, coaches decisions, and the way people look. But you think that he should be quietly repremanded for asking if Tony Parker could take a phiscal shot? He has asked the same question about Richard Hamilton, and heck even Kevin Garnett. Ya'll are barking up the wrong tree. That is why Charles is on the show (controversy) it raises the ratings, and it makes for good entertainment. GO CHARLES!!!

Phil C
05-06-2004, 08:52 AM
I didn't say they should let him go. Read - I said they should reprimand him and then if he continues let him go. And I don't care who he is talking about. I wasn't aware that he said that about others so the reprimand is a long time coming. Controversy is one thing but talking about injuring a player and possible a career on purpose is something else. You should know that Coach. That is an injustice to the fans. I am not a Laker fan but I would hate to see Shaq get a season or career ending injury. Otherwise he did a great job.

he's color commentary........no that's not a racial slur...but he's there to say and do the outlandish things..i still value his insight to stuff, but the stray remarks are for the classless people that watch the show, it's all about the nielson's baby

OK. Fortunately since I had to be gone a while last night I recorded the game and got the half time so I can quote him directly althought not the whole conversation. Basically what Charles said was this: "How do you think Tony Parker would react if you knocked him on his a__. I would like to see it. That is what the Lakers got to do." Very much uncalled for for any players due to the permanent injury risk. I know what he meant. He meant if he got knocked down would he get up and still play as hard. He didn't consider the risk involved which is very important. His two co-hosts were just as responsible because one of them could have changed the subject. There that is the quote basically. Where I work Safety is the highest priority. I know there are risks in basketball but why encourage even inadvertently injuries? Ratings are one thing but serious injuries are something else.

Now the game switches to LA and they will be tougher there plus Jack will be there cheering them on. That makes it double tough. Hopefully the Spurs can at least split with them there. Sweeping might be too much to hope for but at least we are two up on them.

They are still at it. On The Best ____ Sports Show (and this on a Texas sports channel) they asked the same thing. Seems like no one is considering serious career ending injuries but maybe that is a sign of the times since after we have outlawed prayers in school. Oh well.
