We've been discussing this subject a bit, and we are asking for voluntary co-operation from those of you sporting enormous signature lines. We would like to get them smaller. The huge ones make it very tough on people who are on dial-up connections. We're asking NICELY for yall to voluntarily comply, at least for now. Try to limit your sig lines to 3/4 of an inch of screen space or less. We'll see how that works and go from there.

We're suggesting your sig line rise no farther than 3/4 of an inch above the bottom of your post. Some of these are two and three inches high, and that's just too big.

Yes, you have been mentioned as an example of what we're tal;king about. If you could get it about half that size, it might work ok.

You can even fit a 3 line sentence in that space

No sir, yours is too large also. On my screen, it appears three inches high.

Look at 3afan's sig line. If yall could keep them about that size, it would be perfect.

Hey i dont know how to make my small Sinfonfan put mine up for me.

I think it shouldnt be about screen size, but about the number of bytes the picture is.

Maybe a 1/4 inch smaller. Try reducing to 300x100, and let's see how it looks.

for example...you have already said that 3afan2k3's sig picture is ideal....

My pic- 29,678 bytes
marlinfan- 436,212

that is what makes it slow to load...not the screen size

Well, okay, but the screen size is what makes people on dial-up do so much scrolling down. That gets very slow too on large pictures. Doesn't matter what you call it, they're too big.:D So, however many bytes you have to whittle to get the picture down to a reasonable size, I won't argue about. Just please do what you must to reduce the size, folks. The size is determined by the pixels, not the bytes.

And, I didn't say 2k3's picture was ideal, I said 3afan's (his dad)picture was about right. His is 261x63 pixels. I would say a voluntary limit of 300x75 (300/100 works for me, but the others might not agree)pixels would suffice.

well..once again I'll say...screen size doesnt matter...its all about byte size...you can have the biggest looking piture in the world and if it has a small byte size it will load fast. I can have the smallest picture on here with a very large byte size and it takes forever to load on dialup. Look at the byte size on 3afans...thats why there is no problem loading his picture on dialup...the byte size is VERY low..its taking longer for them to scroll down because they are waiting for the picture to load...the higher the bytes, the longer the load.

3afan2k3 49,825 bytes
mine 29,678 bytes

(thats a 20,000-plus difference)

3afan2k3 (your ideal) 300x100
mine 260x168

his is still going to take longer to load.....

Guys, Here is my $.02...

Size of kBytes is important to prevent slow load...

but pixel dimensions are important too. Sometimes, I have to scroll down two screens to get to the next post. And I have my screen resolution very high...

Just MHO....

I would suspect that as pixel count decreases, so does the size of the file. Am I right or wrong here?

Actually, since you're a conservative, you're wrong...jk...:D
I think you are correct.

You could have a pixel size of 300x100 like 2k3"s sig, but also have a lot of animation like marlinfan's. The size would be right, but the scrolling stuff would bump up the byte size. The byte size can be handled by this site, it's the physical height of the display that causes dial-up users problems scrolling past it.

it's also under 10 KB, quite small for anyone with a dial-up connection IMHO.
