District 27 pole vaulters.

First Place - Mason Fendeisen - Yoakum 16'-0"
Second Place - Derek Vinklarek - Yoakum 15'-0"
Third Place - Broderick Mathis - Yoakum 15'-0"
Fourth Place - Matthew Stall - Cuero 14'-6"

Mathis may be the third best 3A vaulter in the state and he is just third best on his own team. Stall (sophomore) may be the fourth best in the region and he can't get out of district. Who says competition doesn't make you stronger?

I went to school with Randy Hall at Calhoun High School when he pole vaulted. His high school best was 16'-10" in 1977. At that time it was the national record. He went 18'-2" at A&M when he won NCAA's in 1980. He vaulted 4'-6" above where his top hand was on the pole. At that point you are pretty much just flying.

It was pretty competitive at the meet. Mathis is a jr. I think.
