Look out for Wharton. Senior laden team. Its their yr to break out. Even 1st team all state lineman Kellen Heard can play some hellacious b-ball. Look out region 4.

I was at the Wharton/Brownwood game at Wimberley a week or so back. They can maybe make the first or second round, but I wouldn't look past that.

bigblue, a kid told me Wimberly could shoot the ball lights out. Hit shots from all over the floor. That is unusual for high school. would love to see them play. good luck.

Not taking anything away from Graham. They have a good team, and should be ranked higher than what they are in the TABC rankings, but to Wildstangs, yes Merkel's only losses are to Graham. Merkel is 16-2. The first time Merkel played Graham, Merkel was still playing football. Merkel had 7 players out of 11 that hadn't joined the team yet. In the second game, one of Merkel's starters was out to knee surgery, and another starter had a sprained ankle(Cobb). Looking forward to district play.

Merkel is a pretty good team. Lambert is the key. He is quick, quick, quick. Reads the defense well. Only problem I see with Merkel is that there isn't a pure shooter on the team. Only seeing them play once though doesn't give me a good perspective on their overall play.
They will be in the playoffs, how far they advance will depend on their strengths and how good they come together down the stretch.
Watch out for Bridgeport. They are putting together a nice little team. They have a kid, Joiner I think is his name, who can shoot. They won their tournament this past week and only have about 4-5 losses total.
Vernon is making a good run right now too. They are playing strong although in tournament action they haven't really played any larger schools yet, which is a good gauge on how good of a team they are.
Graham has played a fairly tough schedule, just defeating 4A WF Hirschi this past week, and losing to Bridgeport in their tournament final.
Graham has a junior that leads the team and a senior guard that is a decent player. I think come playoff time this team will need to play pressure defense to win games because they don't seem to have anyone that has a good perimeter scoring game.
Just a few observations....

greenwood had several of their starters out during the jim ned game due to an incident that occurred earlier in the year.

what number do u think Manor should be? There record is 17-4 right now. went to the north texas classic tourament and did excellent won 3 and lost 1 to Golf Shores and lost by 6 86-80. I think they should be ranked and least 20. Manor plays #2 wimberly on friday, January 9th at wimberly I think that is going to be a great game to watch they play at 6:30.
