I think my favorite funny man of all time is Johnny Carson. I was really sad to see him retire. I like Leno, but he's no Carson. Second would be Rodney Daingerfield. Maybe Mel Brooks.

Richard Pryor. (before he fried his brain, his hair, his face, etc.). Also, the original Saturday Night Live group, i.e., Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtain, John Bulishi and Gilda (Rosana Rosana Dana) Radner.

In no particular order: Charlie Chaplin, Cantinflas (He was the butler in Around the World in Eighty Days), Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, Marx Brothers, Jerry Lewis (very good with Dean Martin), the Three Stoogies, Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, Lucile Ball, Carol Burnet, the Keystone Cops, Peter Sellers, Bill Crosby, Dick Van Dyke (from his old Dick Van Dyke show), the Beverly Hillbillies, Gabby Hayes (the old cowboy sidekick) and anyone I left out as I think and remember.

Don Rickles was very good too. He could really put out the funny insults in such a way that even the victims thought it was funny and there was never any vulgarity. Plus when the tables were turned unlike many comedians he was a great sport and could take it as well as dish it out. Ironically early in his career he played in dramatic roles in such movies as the original Rat Race with Tony Curtis.

Jackie Gleason... I saw him in Gigot ('62) - not only was he hilarious but he put a huge lump in my throat... the thing that impressed me the most - he didn't speak one word - talk about a memorable performance by a comedian... he has my vote...

Also Tim Conway was very funny on the Carol Burnet Show. He did other projects but I always felt he was funniest on that show. Vicki Lawrence was very good when she played Mama. She was great on her tv series called Mama's Family. And Leslie Nelson has been very funny in some of his movies.

Also Sharon Tate would have possibly been a good one. I remember she was very funny in one of Dean Martin's Matt Helm spy movies that came out in 1968 I think. I am not sure of the name but I think it was The Wrecking Crew. What a loss of talent and potential. Her untimely death was a tragedy. Also Joan Hackman (Buddy's Daughter and he was good too) who didn't get to live long enough for her potential. So many to remember.

kirk Douglas wasn't a commedian but he was very funny in the movie The Villian which also starred Arnold and Ann Margaret. This movie was based on the coyote and road runner cartoons.

I have seen his name a time or two, but from watching VHS tapes of my parents, I think Gallagher was one of the first comedians with "New Eyes" as he put it. I actually got to seem him on tour and he has his comedy part of the show but then, at least the show I went to actually has a message. I believe he is one of few who entertains and trys and gets a point a cross. Great guy and comedian.

Also let's not forget two of the greatest comedy teams ever: Laural and Hardy and Bud Abbot and Lou Costello. And also the Hee Haw television country show was popular for years. The jokes were old and crummy but they were presented in such good taste and skill they were funny. And there was good country singing and music during the show. The series was a surprise success and lasted several years in prime time then a few years more in syndication. Ironically it was produced by people from Canada. Strange it took Canadians to show it would work. Even Ray Charles the great blues singer enjoyed the show so much that at his request he was a guest star on it.

Among the ancients, Bob Hope, Groucho Marx, and Bud Abbot and Lou Costello. More modern times, Red Fox. Actually some of the funniest people I know live in Jasper and aren't even trying to be funny. It just is part of their personality and I love them for it.

I have seen Gallagher in concert twice. Back then he used his children and things they do and say. He said once he was putting his 2 year old daughter in the car and he bumped her head on the way in, he said "she didn't cry, she just look at me like are you THAT stupid".

ditto, Larry, Mo and Curley! They were great. And you have to appreciate Cosby, it takes a real comedian to keep the crowd rolling while keeping it clean. Theres a big difference between him and many of the comedians to day who count on shock value to get their laughs. I know times have changed, and there are some other comedians around that I really enjoy, but youve got to give Cosby a lot of credit.

Am I the only one that thinks Chris Rock isn't that funny? Once you've seen one of his stand up specials, you've seen them all. And every single one of his movies is like him trying to do stand up. Maybe it's just me...

Now Chris Farley...that guy could make you laugh without saying a word. I also like any Monty Python sketch. That entire troop was hillarious!
