VWG:

Our district looks like it will go down to the wire. Humm so it looks like the standings are as follows:

Iowa Park 6-1
Graham 5-2
Vernon 4-3
Bowie 4-3
Breckenridge 2-5
Childress 0-7

Remaining Games:

Tuesday
Vernon and Graham
Iowa Park and Bowie
Childress and Breckenridge

Friday
Iowa Park and Vernon
Graham and Breckenridge
Childress and Bowie

Tuesday
Graham and Iowa Park
Bowie and Breckenridge
Vernon and Childress

This could go a number of ways. After Tuesday we should know a little bit more with the top four teams playing each other.

OOppps. I just read in our local newspaper that Iowa Park was 6-1 so I edited the above standings to refelct their current record. Sorry about that.

Well, we have 7 seniors, 3 juniors and 1 freshman on the team. Our first baseman is new to us this year.. she's a junior and came to us from Alvarado. She was also a middle blocker along with Brandi C. on the volleyball team. Our second baseman is a senior and has been the starting second baseman all four years. The SS on our team is a junior... she had previously never played softball in her life until her sophomore year and became our starting SS and had the highest batting average on their team at the end of district. Our third baseman and catcher are seniors.. they are also twins. The centerfielder is a freshman and the sister of our rightfielder who is a senior. They currently have the highest batting averages on the team. Our leftfielder is a senior as well. We also have two other seniors that sometimes switch in the outfield.

To CGW: That's a good report. I would think that SS just may be another 3A candidate for a college scholarship....I have admired Coach Weiss, in that all of a sudden Caldwell emerged as a viable postseason threat for 3A softball last year.

Well, the SS on our team is the setter on the volleyball team as well and as of right now, I don't think she has any intentions on playing softball in college. The 1st, SS, 3rd, Pitcher and catcher were all on the state volleyball team. I know that the second baseman has mailed off many letters and tapes here recently and was contacted by Alvin Community College. The second baseman, rightfielder, third baseman and catcher are all going to go to the Blinn tryouts on the 24th. The catcher and third baseman were also contacted by Clarendon Jr. College for volleyball but did not do anything with it because Clarendon is around 8 1/2 hours away and it's a pretty small college. I believe the coach was contacted by Sam Houston for Brandi. The rightfielder on our team went and practiced with Temple JC for basketball but because of budget cuts, she couldn't get a full scholarship and Temple doesn't really offer what she wants to do so she's going to try to walk-on at Blinn.

Another 21-3A Score;

Hardin Hornets 4 H-F 2 That's an upset. Look for Hardin with their all 9th and 10th graders to drop down to 2A next year and maybe win the State Championship. Big game next Tuesday between Orangefield and Hardin for a playoff spot...The Catcher Balch from Hardin and Christina Jacques(backup Catcher behind Jessica Lemoine. Bridge City) are the two best emerging Freshman that I have seen this year. Hardin's Catcher plays for a top-notch Select team from Kingwood and is really gifted.

In 24-2A Warren beat #10 ranked Deweyville 3-0 Look for both these teams to do more than hold their own in the 2A postseason.
