Tonight Sinton plays Aransas Pass in both baseball and softball. I have been told the softball game starts at 6 and the baseball game at 7. These are important games for both teams. District 30 AAA will not have any more games until next Tuesday (April 20) because the District Track meet will be in Sinton this Thursday and Friday. Of course the teams that have make up games may play before then.

Phil, once again there is no JV game and the Varsity game has been moved up to 6:00 this evening. We'll be able to watch most of the boys game! :D

Matzke throws a no-hitter, missing a perfect game with a walk with one out in the 7th. Lobpries hits 2 run HR.

Greenwood softball beat Pecos 5-3 to secure at least second place in dist 4-3a. They play Kermit next week and if they win that game and Monahans win their games they will play a play-off game to see who takes the title of district champs.

Greenwood baseball came back bottom of the 7th inning to beat Fort Stockton, I think that secures them in third place I am not for sure.

In baseball:

Sinton 13 Aransas Pass 2 after five innings.

In softball:

After 8 innings it was Sinton 5 Aransas Pass 4. A well played hard fought game by both teams! It was the type of game you hated to have a loser. This win puts Sinton in first place at 7 - 1 with Aransas Pass right behind at 6 - 2. There are two games left to play but Sinton probably has the tie breaker advantage if the district has it set up this way by virtue of its two wins over Aransas Pass. Sinton has cinched a playoff birth. Ingleside is in the fight too and both teams have to play Ingleside in district. A key game tonight was Mathis vs Ingleside but I dont' have that score and may not get it until tomorrow.

Baseball: Sweetwater 16 Denver City 3

I just found out Sweetwater is going to Decatur on Saturday to play state ranked Princeton. Anyone know much about Princeton?

It was kind of comical at a Bridge City vs Kountze softball game over at Kountze, when suddenly Kountze just walked off the field with Bridge City ahead 18-0 early in the second inning.. When ask for an explanation, one of the Coaches said, "Some youth baseball teams need to use these fields for practice later today" Oh well, BC is now 123 to opponents 6 runs thus far in the District games. Tomorrow they play H-J in a makeup game.

Princeton is a town that is about 40 miles northeast of Dallas, just east of McKinney. They have a kid there that has played select baseball in the McKinney program and leads the team. He's their ace pitcher and a good college prospect. (Div. I)
Should be a tough test for the Mustangs.

They actually finished their bottom half of the second. But you are correct in that they quit so that the Little League could start. The Kountze coach changed the game time from 5:30 to 4:00 at about 11:00 am on game day stating that the field did not have lights. It was not true. The truth is that instead of rescheduling or playing somewhere else, they lied about the lights to get us there at 4:00 to try to avoid a confilct with the Little League. Initially the umpire said it was going to be a timed game because we needed to be off the field at 5:15 but changed his mind when he found out that he could not do that. So Kountze quit after the 2nd conveniently at around 5:20. Totally unprofessional and an embarrassment to the district.

If Kountze quit, then does this game go down as a forfeit? If so then the score would be 1-0 instead of 18-0 right, and none of the stats from this game would count.

Hey Cat,

I'm not sure, maybe 18 could answer that one. I think a forfiet in softball is 7-0.

I hope that BC gets to keep the score, but more importantly the stats from the game. I know some girls had big numbers at the plate. It would be wrong if they did not get to count those stats.

I saw that Pirate. In softball Mathis is better than their record indicates and now they have a shot at the playoffs and could get help. I know they played well against Sinton in both games and won one of them. They can't catch Sinton and the best they could probably do with Aransas Pass is to tie with them if things worked out right but Aransas Pass would own the tie breaker since A-P beat them twice during the year. They have a shot at catching Ingleside and maybe passing t hem because they are only one game behind Ingleside with that win and Inglside now has to face Aransas Pass and Sinton. If they tie for third place in distrct there will probably be a one game playoff between Ingleside and Mathis to determine who advances. A critical game next Tuesday will be the Ingleside vs Aransas Pass game.

Thanks 18. So in the case of the Bridge City and Kountze game, with Kountze quitting after 2 innings is that considered a forfeit?

Hi MAC, I saw in the paper that they did finish the 2nd inning...What a fiasco, BC having to grab the girls out of school to get them to Kountze at 4:00 pm is a little much. I have noted the un-professionalism before-I am glad they(Kountze) are moving down to 2A next year.... To Cat 22, I have no idea how that stuff works. I do know that BC cleaned their plow in the first beginnings of the ballgame. I am glad to see OF as the probable 3rd place representative for 21-3A. I was a little surprised at OF only beating Buna 5-4 yesterday. Marci Anderson has done a marvelous job at Buna to bring them this far. She had graduated 9 Seniors from last year and just started over with very young but energetic girls.

I remember years ago at about 1958 my old Freer High School Buckaroos played a private school that I won't name but anyway we had them down 32 to 0 at half time (A big lead at that time) and we were playing our second and third string players and even called for the B-Team (That would be freshmen and JVs of today) at half time to get suited up to try to keep the score down. It didn't work and at the end of the third quarter with the score 53 to 0 the other team walked off the field and we took a 1 - 0 forfeit win. What is more that school said they would never play Freer again which they didn't. Years later when they won state in their class the first thing I thought about was that game.

By UIL rules anything less than 5 innings is NOT considered a complete game. But a district can adopt the 15 run rule after 3 inning mercy rule. So since they only played 2 innings, that would be considered a forfeit in my book and something that the District Executive Committee might need to take a look at.

Several things can happen:
1. The game stands as is...
2. The game is a forfeit...
3. UIL might make BC go back to Kountze to finish the game if the result has any effect on the district playoff representatives.

Cat22
04-14-2004, 01:50 PM
Thanks for the explanation18. This game did not affect the playoff seedings so I don't see the UIL forcing this game to be played, although I do think the district committee or the UIL should get an explanation from Kountze.

After Bellville's 15-0 dismissal of Stafford Tuesday:
Meaningless stat - Bellville 64, Opponents 2
Meaningful stat - Bellville 8 wins, 0 losses. Alone in 1st place in 23AAA, with Sealy a close second with 1 loss (to Bellville). Showdown next Tuesday in Sealy. Should be a great game between two very evenly matched teams.
Sealy plays Columbus at Columbus on Friday which is also a critical game for both teams. This is a really fun district this year.

28-AAA Make up games on 4/14

Baseball
Sweeny 15, Palacios 5

Softball
Sweeny 7, Palacios 5 (8 innings)

Sweeny softball clinches playoff spot with Wharton & Needville. I guess we like playing a lot of softball -- 20 innings in 2 days.

Doesn't Sinton still have to play Mathis and Ingleside to finish the second half of district? Mathis is the last game of district and they should play in Sinton. Mathis ended Sinton's district winning streak when they played in Mathis a couple of weeks ago. Maybe Sinton is getting on a roll at the right time.

VRA Sinton has to play Taft, Ingleside and Mathis in baseball.
According to the local paper a late baseball score from Tuesday night it was West Oso 12 Taft 4. West Oso has a 3-3-1 district record. Both Sinton and Mathis are tied at 6 - 1 so the last game of the season between Sinton and Mathis may determine the district championship. It could be a real fight for the third place spot in District 30 AAA.
In softball in 30 AAA a key game next Tuesday night will be Aransas Pass at Ingleside. I think the game is scheduled to be at 7:00 so those in the area might want to see this game because earlier Aransas Pass beat Ingleside 7 to 6.
There are no District 30 AAA games the rest of this week because the District Track Meet is in Sinton today and tomorrow.

To RBARKER, WTC(WEST TEXAS COACH), and Others.....I sure wish that some of you guys would team up and put together a HS Baseball standings and scoreboard; with the regular updates. I would contribute baseball scores and any District standings that I can confirm. Go on "Google" search engine and see the one called SOFTBALL STANDING PAGE and see how 18R has done his for an example. What are your thoughts on this?
