we have a 7th grader running a 5:22 in the 1600 and a 2:25 800 meter. Not too bad for a 7th grader.

Had an 8th grader run a 24.3 in the 200.

I saw the kid in Forney throw 140-something in the discus. Thats pretty good

One of our 7th grade boys ran about 1:01.57 (appx) in 400m a couple of weeks ago at Hutto.

Opened my weekly edition of the "Manor Messenger" (newspaper) and saw some times that very good for *8th grade boys. There is no doubt in my mind that these are stopwatch times. Some of them seem a little too fast for 8th grade but here it goes:

All times are Manor athletes: (No Names)

100m - 10.93
200m - 22.84
400m - 54.70
4x 100m - 46.26

I watched quite a few of the Manor 7th & 8th grade kids run at Hutto. I told my husband that when I was in high school (yes, we DID have track...even way back then), we had guys on the mile relay at the state track meet that weren't too much faster than some of the Manor kids.

Those times are probably WAY off of what they really run. Wasn't Dabryan Blanton running around a 22.00 second 200m in High School? And I think just a few weeks ago he ran a 10.22 is the 100m dash.

The first thing I thought when I read them, was there is no way they are running that fast. I have seen the kid that posted the 100m and 200m times run circles around everyone on the football field since he first started playing, but those times are a little hard to believe. But in the same breath, let me say that he is very fast.

Rockdale has a 7th grader that runs low 16's in the 110 hurdles and 45's in the 300 hurdles.

That is "very" impressive for a 7th grader.

It has been a down year for Manor boys track. (maybe I should say the last few years.) It kind of sucks, because it seems like boys track has become an "afterthought" at Manor. Quite a few of their better athletes don't even participate. Back in my day, if you played football you can best believe you were going to participate in track.

I think track, power lifting, and 7on7 is the best things for football players.

I assume Rockdale will play 7-on-7 this year. Have you played before?

I can't understand why Manor doesn't get involved in it. Especially since they try to throw the ball on every down. (what ever happened to good ole smash mouth football.)

dabryan ran a 20.37 in HS in the 200 for his fastest time...he may of ran a 22-something in 8th or 9th grade

I know that stopwatch times can be way off but Liberty has a 7th grade boy that can flat out run. At the Barbers Hill meet last week he won both the 100 and 200 meters with a time in the 100 of 11.63. He has not been beaten in any race this year and has beaten even the 8th graders times and these schools include Coldsprings, Barbers hill, Splendora, Huffman, and Cleveland. His name is Justin Dalco and this boy is unbelievable. I forgot that he is also unbeaten this year in the long jump. Keep an eye on him in the future. Did I forget to say that he is also a straight A student and the most polite and respectfull young man I have ever been around.

Well stop watches may lie, but tape measures are pretty accurate. I say an 8th grader throw the shot 44'8" this weekend. Saw an 8th grader long jump 18', and saw an 8th grader throw the discus 132'.

Not to shabby for 13-14 year old kids.

I had a blast.

2 weeks ago i saw a eighth grader throw 151'2 inches in the discus it was amazing, he was from newton.

I agree,

I would say anything over 120' in 8th grade is way out there. I have talked to a few throwers and they say that their "range" varies with the conditions. A kid that throws 150' one week may throw 125' the next depending on the wind and the terrain. From what I have gathered...MOST 8th grade gold medals go to the kid that can throw over 110'.

What do you think?

Cuero has an eighth grader that has run 23.4 200 meters and an 11.00 100 meters. Mile relay of 3:52. 4 x 100 of 46.2. That's only three seconds off our varsity time. This group is fast.
