Matt might change the user titles(Scrub-Varsity) to something more exciting. What we need is ideas on what titles you would like to have and how many post you would need to get that title. Just throw out ideas and I'm sure matt will be bale to come up with something.

I think moderators should be called something sport-related, like "enforcers" or "referees"

These sound pretty good. I thought maybe "Jock" could be worked in behind rookie and "Letterman" could replace "Starter". I don't like "All-Star",though. Maybe replace it with "All District".

I agree, All District does sound better.

So, I'll ammend my suggestion to:
0-50 posts Rookie
51-100 posts Practice squad
101-200 posts Jr. Varsity
201-300 posts Letterman
301-500 posts Starter
501-600 posts All-District
601-1000 posts All State
1001-1500 posts All American
1501-2000 posts Hall of Fame
Over 2,000 posts whatever you want to be called as long as it falls within the guidelines of the site.

(Changed the progression rate a bit too.)

I think the tag line for someone who has like 3000+ posts should be something like:

"I have no life outside 3ADL"

fred grunden
04-11-2004, 05:58 PM
Maybe the tagline for someone with 3000+ posts should be motor mouth. But seriously, there should be some way to count only football related posts because some folks get in those word games and get a thousand posts without saying anything. If we cannot distinguish between informative football posts and
nonsense posts, then there is no honor to having a large number of posts.

sinton66
04-11-2004, 06:47 PM
I don't totally disagree with you Fred, but there are some on here that show a great deal of class no matter what thread they post on, football topic or not. One of the best I can think of right offhand is eye of the tiger. I don't think that man has ever had a negative thing to say about anything or anybody on this board. If ANYBODY deserves a "hall of fame" designation, it's him.

Also, I'd like to point out that custom usertitles shouldn't be confusing as long as #of posts is plainly displayed. If we establish a set number as the pivot for custom title, it will become common knowledge in no time at all. Those of us who are regulars would also be able to instantly answer any questions about it.

Just for review, I kinda agree with SintonFan that it should be stretched out a bit, so here is the current plan:

0-100 posts Rookie
101-250 posts Practice squad
251-500 posts Jr. Varsity
501-750 posts Letterman
751-1000 posts Starter
1001-1500 posts All-District
1501-2000 posts All State
2001-3000 posts All American
3001+ posts custom user title

I also like the idea of hall of fame, but I think it might be fun to elect people to that. One or two per year or so.

Any dissention/discussion?

There is supposed to be a "canned list" of avatars. He had a bunch of different football helmets there for a while, but they've been taken off. I think he is probably looking for some avatars to put on the site. After you get to 1500 posts, you can do a custom avatar like mine.

Recognition will be because of quality. It has always been that way. The different usernames at different levels tends to lend a sense of progression though, and that's kinda important too. If you stop and think about it, what does it say about a person that has managed to post 3000 comments without getting himself/herself rommed? There should be at least some form of reputational progression that comes with that. Of course, this is just my opinion.
