The clock on my computer at work is losing appx. 10 minutes a day!

Last week this problem caused me to leave for lunch late twice and leave for home 10 minutes late!!!!!!

What causes it and can anything be done to correct it???

Do they still put clock batteries in computers? If so, maybe you need a new battery.(?)

Ranger Mom,

It could be a network problem. Our computers all have the same time and they were slow. We could change it, but the network would change it back. The problem was addressed by our computer guy and now they are all correct.

It could be a conspiracy to make you work longer to make up for all the time you spend on 3adownlow.:D

Seems like I remember some "real time" clock downloads, but I'm not positive. Most computer clocks are tied to the incoming AC power and based on the assumption that it operates at 60 cycles per second. The actual frequency of AC power can vary a bit due to a number of things, so it may not ever be absolutely accurate. The only clock I know of that could be considered dead on at all times is WWV (our National Atomic clock) which is broadcast on a number of radio frequencies and over GPS satellites. I believe there is also a tie in over the internet, but don't remember what it was called.

What's sad is...I wear a watch AND I have the time on my phone RIGHT BESIDE my computer.....I am just conditioned to look at the computer clock for some reason.

I guess it's because it's the only clock I have in my office at home and that is where I am used to looking at.

The only way I usually notice that it is wrong is when I am on the downlow and notice a post has been made 7 minutes later than my clock is saying!!

P.S. Keeping Jason on the straight and narrow is a full-time job itself!!
