The Gainesville High School boys track team competed at the Theo Rigsby
Relays in North Richland Hills Saturday.
The meet was composed of Class 4A and 5A schools from around the North
Texas area, but the 3A Leopards still walked away with a second-place
finish in the team standings.
"This was the first meet that we had several of the basketball players
compete with us and that helped out a great deal," GHS track coach
Patrick Harvell said.
Gainesville had several first place finishers. The 400 meter relay team
of Amos Berryman, Jerome Hewitt, Darcel McBath and Chris Brown won first
with a time of 42.57 seconds. The 800 meter relay team of Larenzo
McBath, Hewitt, Darcel McBath and Brown placed first with a time of
1:29.89
Hewitt was also first in the 100 meter dash (10.67 seconds), McBath was
first in the 400 meter dash (51.05 seconds), Courtney Royal was first in
the 300 meter hurdles (41.26 seconds) and the long jump (22-3).
Bringing home silver medals were Amos Berryman in the long jump (21-5
1/2) and the triple jump (42-9); Darcel McBath in the 100 meter dash
(10.82); Courtney Royal in the 110 hurdles (15.27); and Larenzo McBath
in the high jump (6-0).
Brown placed fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.24). Levi Millhollin was
fifth in the triple jump (40-10 1/2) and Darcel McBath was fifth in the
high jump (5-10). Justin Booker finished sixth in the 100 meter dash
(11.37) and Kelvin Phillips was sixth in the 400 meter dash (54.08).
The GHS junior varsity boys also competed at the Theo Rigsby Relays.
Yusef Stevenson won first in the long jump (20-3 1/2) and second in the
triple jump (40-9).
The 400 meter relay team of Gene Favors, Bradley Davis, Zach Shell and
Da'Ron Calhoun finished third. The same four runners also finished third
in the 800 meter relay. Calhoun was third in the 100 meter dash and the
long jump, and placed fourth in the high jump.
The 1600 meter relay team of Davis, Travis Endres, Trey Blaylock and
Bruce Shuman placed fifth. Shell was fifth in the 200 meter dash, Endres
was fifth in the 800 meter run, Jonathan Pelley was fifth in the 3,200
meter run, and Jeramey Hinkle was fifth in the shot put.
The Leopards will host the Robyn Byars Texoma Relays Friday at Leeper
Stadium with some of the top teams in Texas scheduled to attend.
