Lots of speed but hand timing has so much disparity.

For example.

Atlanta has one guy in the top 10 in the 100M dash.

Graham, Atlanta, 10.43

10.43 x 4 = 41.72

The fastest guy on the team runs a 41.72 sprint relay if he clones himself and does not miss a hundreth of a second in exchange.

However the top four guys on the team run it in 41.53

Imagine that.

not everyone runs a full 100 meters though...that makes a difference...

Handtimes are such a joke...Hard to believe Graham has a 10.3 and 10.4 guy. Yet they only run a 42.7. HAHAHA. If they had two guys that were legit, they would be running sub 41. Hand times are ok for small meets, but please dont turn in those times as the fastest in the state. Chances are, neither of those guys will make it to state.

Sanscouth...there are two factors here that make a difference...Kaorder mentioned one..."not everyone runs a full 100 meters" and most good coaches will have their fastest guys running the longer legs of the relay. Second, remember...the runner is actually about at 3/4 speed by the time he gets the baton on the last 3 legs. He is not having to start from a standstill. This shaves several 10ths of seconds off of the time as well. I do agree with you about hand timing being extrememly inaccurate in some instances which makes it difficult to compare times from one meet to the next.

The Grahams 100 m times arn't right those kids dont run those times. Those times were form South hills meet and all the times were wrong there. They have 4 fast guys all run 10.6-11.0 they are very quick and will compete at state.

They are young and inexperienced. That does not mean they are slow. I am confident Spoon will have them competitive come district and later. He almost always does and I doubt that it will be any different this year.

Yes, the times for the 100m that the two Graham guys ran where way off. The timers were way off and they still reported them. However, Graham does have a fast team. They have two kids, one a junior and one a senior that ran 21.7 last year and are closing in on that time this year. One of them went to State last year and ran the 200m. Last year they their fastest time was a 42.3 in the 4x100 and a 1.31 in the 4x200. They have all the same kids this year. The only problem is that they have coaches that run them in average meets with no COMP. There times would be faster in they ran in bigger meets. It just doesn't make any sense. I know Atlanta has some very fast teams, I know they won all three relays in Austin last year. Do they have everyone back this year or is this a different team?
