Actually that is what Gene said according to the transcript. However after he made that speach, he looked up and said [off the record]

"OK, let's get this mother out of here".

So I win:D

How ya gonna prove it? I'd think a winning answer should be documented.:D But, you can go ahead if you wish.;)

Heh, heh.

Reportedly(astronaut Walter Cunningham in his book, 'The All-American Boys') the last words spoken on the moon.

However the transcripts show Cernan saying, "Okay. Now, let's get off. Forget the camera"

Sans Couth

Well I guess Slpybear fell asleep early last night. Maybe he will check in today.

slpybear the bullfan
04-22-2004, 12:44 PM
Guys.... Let me clarify something... I probably should have done this earlier... Man first reached the surface of the moon while being inside the L.E.M. ... and man last was on the surface while he was inside the L.E.M....

Sorry about that... I had been given this trivia question by a former Mission Control worker..... should have been a little more clear.

Let me see if I can think of a good clue...

crzyjournalist03
04-22-2004, 01:37 PM
oh...so they're both wrong!!!

how about, first words:

"Hey, this thing isn't made of cheese!"

Last words:

"Oh man, I think we left the golf cart out there!"

Sans Couth
04-22-2004, 03:56 PM
Well if that's the case, then here we go.

First Words

"Contact Light"

Buzz Aldrin

Last Words

"3 2 1 "

Dr. Shcmitt

Very Close Sans Couth... Very close...

You got number one correct..

on number two, what comes after the countdown?

Sans Couth
04-22-2004, 07:47 PM
"OK, Let's get off,...forget the camera."?

Sans Couth
04-22-2004, 07:50 PM
Off topic, but I would like to include my favorite "space quote".

But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal?
And they may well ask, why climb the highest mountain?
Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas?

I think the last word slpy is looking for is "liftoff"...but if I'm right, I'll let Sans Couth have it, because there's no way I could have gotten that close.

slpy...where are you???

slpybear the bullfan
04-23-2004, 09:39 PM
Sorry guys, my wife took me out and I have been out of pocket...

The first word spoken from the surface of the moon was "Contact" which was part of the phrase "contact light" spoken when the crew of the LEM made the call on the first probe that touched the moon.

The last word spoken was the word "Ignition" which was spoke after the countdown to fire the Ascent engine.

The reason I brought up such archane trivia was because I had done the work to learn this after being told that the first and last words spoken on the moon were, "Houston." They almost were, but not quite.

BTW, if anyone else is as big a nut about the space program please help yourself to this site detailing a lot of the lunar surface exploration.

Sans Couth, you by far were the closest, its your turn!

Is there a trick somewhere.

There are only a few Hall of Famers that played for the same team for exactly 22 years.

How long did you have that one saved up? Oops, too fast on the trigger. I seen Al's name in the paper a while back and it hit me. With the term battery it seemed like a good question.(But you had to be an Older baseball fan to get the battery reference-Ya' young whipper snapper!!)

Sans Couth, I'll post this before signing off till AM. This is one that you'll know if you've got the right answer. Beware of the Forney Boys 'cause I got a feeling they can nail this. OK, This NFL hall of famer's cross-state rival had the same mascot as his college alma mater or was his college mascot his nickname? Who is he?

are we talking about Mean Joe Greene???

crzyjournalist03
05-03-2004, 04:42 PM
Ok...I've re-read the question and I know for a fact that it's Mean Joe Greene...the hall of fame player played his NFL career in Pittsburgh, so his cross-state rivals would be the Eagles, the mascot of his college, the University of North Texas. Due to his popularity, North Texas adopted "Mean Green" into their name in his honor, and it has stuck ever since.

I knew that going to UNT would pay off for me eventually...I just never knew it would happen so soon!:D

Sans Couth
05-03-2004, 04:44 PM
I think you got it.

Mean Joe Green played for the Mean Green, aka the North Texas State University Eagles.

While he was a Pro he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, while his CROSS STATE Rivals would have been the Philidephia EAGLES.

Good Job Forney Dude. :D

very good...Harry S Truman did not have a middle name (notice that there is no period after the "S" because it is not any sort of an abbreviation). He had a middle initial, but no middle name!

I am not gettin touchy. It's just that we set up some ground rules for the game and everyone else seems to be practicing them. You just jumped in like a drunk at a party and changed the rules and acted like you had superior questions. If you want to challenge me with a question that you think I can't answer, then get in line, answer a question, and ask when it is your turn. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the ride, but don't pretend that you are going to tell me how to play the game that I started.:p
