BIG BLUE DEFENSIVE END

I've been doing pole vault ever since I was in the 7th grade, but I cannot help myself but to jump off of my right foot, which is the incorrect foot. Do any of ya'll out there know any remedies for this?

Have you tried practicing jumping off your left foot?

I was actually aiming for a little insight from a person who has done this before and didn't start 2 days ago and hasn't seen me jump every day....

Go to this website Pole Vault approach (http://www.advantageathletics.com/polevault/polecarrydrills.html#Pole%20Carry%20Drills) for a good in-depth instruction of how to approach the pit properly.

Then go to this page from that site plant technique and drills (http://www.advantageathletics.com/polevault/drills.html#Pole%20Vault%20Plant%20Drills) and read all of that, i especially recommend the last two drills. Do the bottom drill several times (around 3 sets of 8 one after another before you practice each day) to get your muscles to remember the movement of the final approach

The rest of that site (just click on pole vault from the top menu) has tons of good instruction, drills, and pictures of how to properly perform all stages of the pole vault.

I dont know if you are already doing this, but you should also have someone, a coach or a teammate, to catch your step on your approach, as your final (left) step should hit in exactly the same postion on the runway every time you vault in order to have the most consistent beginning of the vault. Look at the sequence pictures of the many vaulters on that page for the correct form for all of this. Good luck.

Also, if you have any more questions I would recommend going to Pole Vault Power (http://www.polevaultpower.com), there are many very experienced and helpful people in a forum like this that can help you out with anything you need with vaulting.
