This should be a great game and very close. I look for a Newton win this year as they seem to be dominating their opponents in pre-district so far and Jasper, although strong, is not the same team that beat the Eagles last year. Good luck to both teams. :)

Cook is surprisingly fast for a big guy. That was the first time that I've seen him all year. If you want to tackle him once he starts running downfield...have fun. It's like a runaway train.

I haven't seen Jasper yet this year but have seen Newton. How big is Jasper. I know they aren't as big as last year!! Newton is good and solid but not the best team they have had the past couple of years. They do have several weapons. Should be a great game. If Jasper plays smart, they win. If not, they could get run out of the stadium. :cool:

Kirbyville is loaded with talent and speed. What they lack in is leadership. Kirbyville boys play hard and I respect them for that. I think they will definitely finish third. But the games to watch are the Kirbyville/Newton; Kirbyville/Diboll; and maybe even the Kirbyville/Woodville; If Kirbyville does not make it to at least the 2nd round of playoffs this year then they should make some serious changes.

I would venture a guess that any team in 3A or on any level for that matter, leaves them selves "open for destruction" in one fashion or another. It's one thing to figure it out. It's another thing to execute a game plan that exploits that weakness. We'll see come Friday.

Just do me one favor. If Jasper comes away with a victory, don't go into hiding. Stick around. With the weather changing, I'm sure that there will be plenty of migrating crows that can be served any way you like them. I've heard that bar-b-qued is the best... :D

...I think most of the veteran Newton members are laying low also. This game, of all games, should be played on the field, not on this Board. Then, when the game is over, we in the area will all support both teams going forward. :)

To everyone one on the board: Everyone who has not seen newton play this year is basing their opinions on the Jasper/Newton game last season when Newton played with an above average newton team and when Jasper played with a "once in a liftime" group of mamoths. Jasper no longer has any mamoths(besides Vincent). They just have a normal sized humans.

Jasper and Newton have both had relatively "cush" predistrict schedules. Newton has remained strong since the beginning and Jasper has picked up lots of momentum in it's last two games winning by convincing margins. Knowing this, how on earth can you think it's going to be a blowout in Newton's favor?

Can someone provide some insights on the different matchups, ie. running game against the defense, passing game against the defenses, etc.?Sorry Festus. I saw your first post but didn't respond because I figured someone else on here might be of better help since I'm a couple of states separated from ya'll. Can someone better qualified give 'ol Festus here some data?

Thanks.I wish I could help you, but I don't think the stats of these two teams mean much at this point. For one thing, they only had one common opponent. I do think they are probably pretty evenly matched up, with Jasper probably having more depth. Newton has a better record, but Jasper has played perhaps a somewhat tougher schedule. One thing for sure, both teams are loaded with speed. I know this isn't hard data, but it is the best I can do.

Hey, Spivey I've been around just sitting back and taking it all in. Other than what happened last night this is what Texas ball is all about: lotta hype, lotta anticipation, and a lotta hard hittin, which is what these two towns have been characterized by, for years. Good Luck to the Dawgs hope it's an injury free game, but I hope my Eagles come out on top. Looking forward to watching them represent District 20 in the playoffs.

Sorry to post so late but I have been enjoying homecoming parties. Jasper you really impressed me tonight, congragulations. I guess the best I can hope for is a second place finish in district and a deep run into the playoffs. To the pineywoods champs (JASPER), congragulations once again. I also retract any negative posts I may or may not have made toward Jasper. Good luck in the playoffs and I gracefully choke down any crow I may deserve.
