Darcel McBath is a senior at Gainesville High School and is one of the most sought-after football recruits in North Texas. Each week until National Signing Day, he will share his experiences from the recruiting process

On Saturday (Jan. 17) I flew to Lubbock to visit Texas Tech. When I got
there it was snowing which was kind of different because I wasn't
expecting that at all. It was kind of pretty. We went and ate and got to
know everybody. We went and toured the campus and saw all the new
athletic facilities and the new academic center. Then I went back to my
hotel and went to sleep for a little while. That night they had a
banquet to honor the football players. They got awards and I got to meet
a lot of them. They were real cool guys. After that we went out and
partied and had fun. We went to a club called Static.
I was planning on coming back Sunday, but I could stay an extra day if I
wanted to, so I decided to stay until Monday because I was having a lot
of fun and I really wanted to see everything. It's a good school and one
that I'm considering so I wanted to make sure I saw everything and got
to know a lot of people. Sunday we went on a tour of the campus and the
dorm rooms and went to the student rec center, which was crazy. They had
swimming pools and basketball courts. It was pretty neat.
I got up at 5:45 a.m. on Monday and flew back and got into town around 8
a.m. I came straight up to the school to take pictures for our state
championship, then I went home and got a little nap. I didn't get to go
to the parade because I fell asleep. Then I packed again and left at 2
p.m. for Texas A&M. I flew out there. First we had to fly all the way
out to San Antonio to pick up somebody then we flew to College Station.
When I got there, the first thing we did was go eat. It seems like that
is always the first thing we do. I met all the coaches and we went up to
the players lounge and played pool and ping pong and stuff. Then we went
back to the hotel and then went and ate again. Then I just hung out with
the players and played video games and stuff.
Tuesday, we toured everything. We got to put on our jersey and run out
on the field. That was pretty tight. They had the smoke and had my
number and everything. It was just a lot of fun to run out on the field
and see your name on the big screen. They did that at Tech too. They
even gave me my number (#7) which I liked.
I came back on Wednesday morning and got here around 9:30 and went
straight to school. This week I have had coaches at my house all week.
Notre Dame head coach Tyrone Willingham was here Wednesday and Coach
Brown from Texas Tech was there when I got back. Thursday, Coach Thurman
and Coach Miles and a few other guys from Oklahoma State came and talked
to my mom.
I am going to Notre Dame this weekend.
I'm not going to say that I'm wide open, because I kind of have an idea
where I want to go. I don't want to say anything right now just because
I don't want to. I have talked to my mom about it and I think early next
week I will be ready to make my decision because I'm ready to get it
over with.
