Star-Telegram Preview
Kennedale (10-1) vs. Iowa Park (7-4)
3A DIV. II REGION I AREA ROUND
6 p.m. Saturday, Boswell High School
The Wildcats remember this round well, having been upset by Ballinger 20-17 last season. Iowa Park's record might be deceiving considering the Hawks share a district with perennial powers Graham and Vernon. The Wildcats' blitzing defense will face a Hawks offense that operates out of three formations: single-wing, Wing T and shotgun. The Hawks' eight-man defensive front could challenge the Kennedale running game (299 yards per game) but leaves little to stand in the way if one of several Wildcats backs breaks through. Kennedale is in the second round of the playoffs for a third consecutive season. Iowa Park is in for the seventh time in nine seasons, losing to Decatur in the third round in 2002.
Odds and Trends
Rex Harper has rushed for at least two touchdowns in all 11 of Kennedale's games. He scored twice in Saturday's 60-21 win over Sanger. Harper has scored 28 touchdowns on 140 carries, an average of one touchdown for every five carries.
