I think Forney did good

Isn't "Red" Richardson Marlin's best DB arguably? Did I miss him? Or am I confused.

Also thought Jess Buenger deserved at least HM QB. D23 Offensive MVP past two year, and the clear leader of the Bellville Brahmas. Several other Bellville names, all deserving, but thought he should have headed that list.

Stat line: 121 of 212, 2,231 yds., 28 TDs, 4 INTs, 241 Rush Yards

Purvey is very good!

So is Sadler from Marlin.
Ok, I'm done.

I think it's a total rip-off that Decatur's QB Chandler Dane and WR Brian Christian, didn't make at least the 2nd team offense, and didn't even get honorable mention. That's wrong!

I think everyone should remember this. There are over 8000 players in 3A in the Great State of Texas. Of these there are about 3200 Starters. Out of these players there are about 70 selected to represent teams 1, 2, and honorable mention. When you think about a player at a skill position such as QB you need to remember that your hometown favorite has at least 206 peers in 3A that are all worthy of being a starter. So when you do the math, remember 2 things.

1. If you make All State it is something to be very proud of.

2. If you don't make it, you were surrounded by a very large group of stiff competition and you have no reason to be ashamed.

one question I have always had about All-State Selections...especially the AP one is....how do they pick the offensive lineman...what do they go by...its been said before that their decisions are never affected by coaches opinions so how can they pick the offensive lineman cause i can almost guarantee you that they have never seen any of those guys play...if they have they've seen maybe one or two!

Somebody definitely looks at things a lot different than the AP writers!!

I am in a little bit of awe considering that Burnet had the Offensive Player of the Year AND the defensive player of the year yet Terris Purvey of Gainesville didn't make it. I guess his stats collevtively weren't up to par or something!

All the Tight Ends get robbed by the All-State selections, since they don't even acknowledge the position. Jamie Garcia, Giorgio Bostice, Zack Burks, and Dustin Daniel...any one of those could have been selected.

I thought a girl in Orange Grove should have made all state in volleyball and her name is Jody Myers. She was great and led her team to regionals. I admit I don't know who she could have replaced though but she is a great player. She may make it in basketball because she is doing great there too.

Well, I posted this on the other thread, but I'll post it here too. I was just wondering if only seniors are considered for all state. Andrus and Runnels both made all state rb, hm, but were not the leading back in their district. Smith outrushed both of them thru 10 games against very tough competition (brenham, austin anderson, wharton, crockett, elgin, and the rest of 23-AAA) 3 of their preseason opponents won their district and the two others just barely missed the playoffs due to points.

AP selections are just like their preseason picks and rankings, nothing but a popularity thing. There are very few sportswriters whose opinion I would hang my hat on. Most of them have never seen the majority of these kids play, and therefore have no idea what they're talking about. Nothing but hype.

All of the players that were selected are well deserving and should be congratulated. The selection process has got to be difficult with the amount of players that are looked at to be selected. Because of this difficulty, I personally think it is more of a politcal process that is used, whoever pushes and pulls their players to the AP the best get the final nod. I think with the fact that the AP does not consider the position of tight end to be of any importance shows that the selectors really have a lack of knowledge of the game itself. Have a nice day

By gawd, Im a little pissed about ours too. We had the top defense in the state (avg. 103.8 yards a game)and we had TWO picks! Now, one of them, our MLB, was legit, except that he only got hon. mention(shoulda been 1st or 2nd team). The other, a DB, was a TERRBILE corner! He was fast, but that's it. He was great as a WR and PR, but he couldn't cover himself with a wet blanket...yet he got 1st team! The only reason folks didnt throw for 400 yards on us was b/c our DL never let the QB throw it(and keep in mind, EVERY ONE of these kids went both ways). Yet, did we get any picks from there....nope!
Other than that, Im happy. Our kicker/punter got 1st team both ways, and rightfully so. We had a RB who probably woulda got mentioned, but he left in week 8 and didnt play another game. I kinda felt someone on our OL shoulda been mentioned, but they're all Jrs, so Im not too heartbroken over that. But Im kinda fired up about the DL not getting mentioned!

First of all, PPHS fan, that was a good post. But I have a question for you and anyone else on this board; Do you think there are six RBs in 3A better than Gainesville's Terrius Purvey? I don't! No, he didn't have the stats of the others in the regular season but he didn't play in the fourth quarter of any regular season game either.
The AP needs to look at the playoffs too.
Gainesville had several others that deserved first or second team recognition, but I don't have time to get into all of that. Hopefully the sportswriters will look at more than the regular season.

One of the problems here is that there is no consistent reporting of stats and other infomation. The selection committees have to work with what they have, and the data is so inconsistent.

If the major papers or media does not cover a Marlin or Bellville adequately for instance, then it is hard to recognize those individuals.

Dallas covers their teams, SA, Houston just their areas. The school administration does need to do a better job in promoting their programs.

Many posts over the past weeks were "Well what does Orangefield have?" Gainesville stats, Port Isabel. Impossible to find anything on what their strengths are, weakness etc.

Just my .02.

there are 12 3A RBs better than purvey! Maybe 13. how do i know? well, i dont. i haven't see every team with an exceptional running back play - no one has. so obviously the numbers i just threw out are hogwash.

soooooo ... how can you say there are NOT 6 RBs better than purvey? or 12? being ON THE ALL STATE TEAM (1st team thru HM) recognizes him as one of the BEST IN THE STATE --- ISN'T THAT ENOUGH!?!?!?!
