The planet Mars is going to be closest to the Earth as it has been in 6500 years the next few days. I think it is in the Southeat after dark but if anyone knows for sure please correct me. I saw it last night and I think that was Mars. It should be bright the next few days. We don't want to miss seeing this rare phenomenum.

It will indeed be visible in the southern sky beginning about an hour after nightfall and continuing through the night.
It's being said that even small telescopes should be able to see the polar ice caps and maybe even a dust storm. It should follow a southeast to southwest trek through the sky, about 1/3 the way up from the horizon.

Saw it a few nights ago low on the horizon. Wow, really really red.
