Okay, I have to say baseball is my second favorite sport after football but I'm not playing softball this year, however I am a part of the Jasper Varsity Girls Powelifting team. So if anyone out there wants to talk about any powerliftin with me, hit me up 'cause I want to find out how some of the other local schools' girls teams are this year. By the way, is anybody going to the Powerlifting Meet tomorrow (Saturday, January 17) at Orangefield!?

We had a great powerlifting team last year, but have lost our funding this year. We are trying our best to compete, in the last meat I heard about, Torres won first in her class, and Franklin won fourth in his. We're looking for meets, so let me know when, so I can pass the info along!

I attended the Powerlifting meet in OF today..It was very good-LC-M, Jasper, OF, Deweyville, Bridge City, Anahuac and others put on quite a show. Both boys and girls had impressive lifts. I watched all the big linemen that quit the Bridge City football team after the 2002 season with mixed emotions. Yes, they are going after those scholarships in shot put, discus, weightlifting etc: They are really excellent now as sports specialist! Somehow however, I wish that they could have been the offensive and defensive line for Bridge City this football season. I guess everyone has a right to individual choice, in matters like these.

What a day, what a day! I finally got home about 7:30 tonight from the Orangefield meet and have been up since 4:15am this morning. It was a lot of fun, which I knew it would be. I met a lot of new and cool people and talked to them. There were a lot of good people there too and LCM brought a crapload of guys n girls...including Michelle in the super heavy weight class who is the defending State Champion from last year. She is AWESOME! I guess I did pretty good, especially since we didn't get to start working out until last Tuesday when we came back from the Christmas Holidays and that was the first meet for me, etc etc. I received a 3rd place varsity medal for the 132lb. weight class, so I was pretty happy I guess. (I'll get better! wink ) Hope to hear from some of u peeps soon...

To Ms JasperBulldog: Please keep us informed whenever their is going to be another meet in SE Texas. I really enjoyed the sport. That girl Michelle, from LC-M is a Junior-she won State as a Fr. and Soph., I was told. I like the fact that everyone applauds when someone struggles and finally makes a clean lift that took total determination, effort, and concentration at near their present limit.

Keep us informed of upcoming meets in the East Texas area--I am a former lifter and enjoy watching meets. I am also a certified judge so if any coaches need any judges just give a reply

My daughter is competing in the ElCampo meet this Saturday. This is her first meet and also didn't start practicing until after the holidays. Looking forward to see how the team looks and how the competition matches up. Let me know if anyone on here will be there.

I was wondering, during the week for practice, do the girls lift in the fieldhouse along with the guys?

HEY everybody! Yeah, there is a meet as u've read in Woodville this Saturday. We have some guys from Jasper that are gonna lift at it but none of the girls from here are going to that meet. I'll probably go just to watch and see how everyone does though. However, the next meet for our Jasper girls that I'm going to is in Anahuac next Saturday, January 31! I'm looking forward to attending and doing even better than I did at the last meet. Hopefully I'll squeeze my way into regionals...that would be awesome. I'm gonna work really hard for it because they take the top 10 in each weight class to regionals and as of right now I'm number 14, so I'm really hoping I can improve enough at the Anahuac meet to get on up there. We didn't get to start working out till after the holidays either, which sucks but it's okay...just means we have to work harder & get tougher! :)

Just wanted to answer the question you asked. No, the girls do not workout or lift at the same time with the guys during the week. I'm not sure how much the guys workout really but I know it's from 3:30 (right after school) to 4:30. Then the girls work out from 4:30 to 5:30, and the girls work out a lot...none of that 2 days a week or crap like that. Last week (before the meet in Orangefield) some of us were there EVERY single day of that week before the meet. It's all good though, I enjoy it actually. Naw, but our coaches have like this HUGE MAJOR rule thing about the guys messin with girls and vise versa at the field house and stuff...they're very very strict on that. And if there's not many guys & girls goin to a meet then we ride on the same bus but the guys sit in the back & we have to sit in the front of the bus. The Anahuac meet we'll probably take 2 buses 'cause I think our coaches are gonna take as many people as they can to that one, so it'll be girls on one bus and guys on the other. Neways, that's that! >>*If any of you have aol instant messenger or yahoo then add me so we can talk sometime. My aim sn is ReBeLSweetie928 and my yahoo is the same.*<<

Anyone remember Mark Henry? You know, the weight lifting Olympian from Silsbee. This topic got me to wondering what ever happened to him... So I did a search on the web and found out he's a WWF wrestler! That totally took me by surprise (since I don't watch wrestling). I remember seeing him at a powerlifting meet in Jasper back in the late '80's (probably '89). That guy was/is a behemoth!
