No common basis from which to make a comparison.

Put it this way... In '97 we were 10 times bigger and a few times faster than Sealy...

We had gone neck to neck with 4A Calallen (who lost by 3 points to LA Marque in the Semi's, who went on to win state) during the regular season losing 7-0 in the 4th quarter on a back punt snap (and had two TD's called back)... Basically, we were gunna win it...

Sealy 31
Cuero 0

They were the most disciplined team I've EVER seen,...

Still haven't stated your opinion. . .

You can't, the athletes of 3A back in the mid 90's were a lot larger and more athletic than the majority of 3A athletes today...

Finally the athletes are begenning to be larger and more athletic again, but we're still not back to the level we once were... I blame it on the introduction of 'more healthy ways' to raise your kids in the mid 80's... Too many parents put their kids on these programs and it prevented most of them from being the corn-fed athletes we once had...

Finally we're getting the corn-fed boys back...

But if you want me to go out on a limb and say what I think the score would be I will...

I was there in the stands for 4 out of the 6 games in the 90's and will tell you it was very difficult to move the ball in any form or fashion against these teams. Large, Fast, Disciplined and very well coached. They play more like a team than any i have ever seen. Looked like each player played his position and did not worry about the other positions ( did not need too). Sealy would have dominated and average size team with any form of a balanced off.
Sealy 35
Burnett 7 (against the 2nd team D)

There is really no basis for direct comparison, but Gobbla is right - the key to the Sealy 4-peat teams was DISCIPLINE. The execution of those teams was an absolute marvel. We had some size here and there, and quite a bit of speed three of the 4 years, but taken as a whole, the collection of athletes on those teams was not real special from a strictly physical standpoint. The coaching staff, particularly on defense, was exceptional, and we always had at least one very good RB and usually a very astute QB who understood the offense. The athletes I see on the field these days are bigger and faster than a good portion of the players on those Sealy teams. Oh yeah, there was also this guy named TJ...

Top 5 3A teams of all time

1983 Daingerfield
1992 Southlake Carroll
I don't remember which year it was but whatever Sealy team of the 4 straight title squads was the best...
the Cuero team of the 1970's that won like 44 in a row..and of course lemme throw in the 2001 Everman team...

Class of '76...

Didn't lose as 7th graders, didn't lose as 8th graders, didn't lose as freshmen, didn't lose as sophmores on both JV (or whatever it was back then) and varsity, didn't lose as juniors as JV and varsity and lost to Ennis 13-10 in the '75 title game...

I do agree with your order...

Which Sealy team, though? Man, they were all awesome in their own ways...

I think the 2000 & 2001 Celina teams could beat them even though they were 2A

Booger.....you won't get any stir from this ole Bulldog, the teams mentioned were some of the greatest ever in Texas football. No one can ever duplicate what Sealy did (partly thanks to the UIL), the defensive stats of Daingerfield are untouchable, plus the reps of Southlake and Cuero would be hard for anyone to argue with. And of course we have a special respect for Everman from last year and most folks say that the 2001 team was better! Winning any state championship is awesome, but those teams were just very special.

Just for conjecture, I would say the '95 Sealy team was probably the best of the four. Sealy's placekicker scored more points in 16 games than the total of the opponents. Just sorta points up how good the defense was. The offense got most of the notice, but the D was awfully stingy. It wasn't one of those "gave up no points all season" things, but the average yield per game was around 5, as best I recall. wink
