The last I heard, Jasper was up 19-0 around the half. Does anyone have a final?

Thanks for the update. A shutout for the Jasper defense against a pretty good 4a team? Wow. And PN-G scored some 9 TD's last week against 5a Baytown Sterling in their scrimmage. Just 3 seasons ago PN-G made it to the 4a Div II state finals agains Stephenville. They still have the same coach, same program.

Not too shabby considering that PNG scored 9 TDs in their scrimmage last week. It'll be interesting to see the stats...

The Chronicle will post the stats, but you have to pull up PNG's page to get to it. They're not doing a page for Jasper for some reason this year...

I am surprised Jasper shut out PNG...very impressive....also kinda surprised they only scored 25..maybe the first game kinks had to get worked out..LOL a good win for Jasper though!

Jasper ougained PNG 372 (149 rushing, 223 passing) to 200 (123 passing, 77 rushing). Rodriguez Mitchell ran for 3 td's (1, 29, and 24) and passed one to James Bass. I think the biggest difference other than the defense stepping up was the penalties (only 4 for 35 yards). Nice job, Bulldogs.

The TD pass was to Terrance Bean, not James Bass...

Guys,

I was at the game. It was a great experience. I love Texas high school football

The defense has really improved. Great things will happen for this team if they can sustain and build on this level of performance. The biggest improvement is the secondary. Our DBs broke up at least three passes, intercepted two and tackled well. The defensive line was excellent. Although, PNG did get off a few decent runs.

On the offensive side of the ball: They were good but, they will be excellent when they get their "timing" down on the passing game. This should happen with time. I really think our guys were just a little nervious in the first half.

I am proud of them. PNG is a good and we did well against them.

Matt 328, Don't be surprised that Jasper and a lot of others down on the coast don't run up the scores. They are just not interested in point-spread mentality. Smart Coaches, when they get a solid lead tend to work developing players into the ballgame along with their stalwart players to give them the opportunity to get their timeing schemes coordinated with the better seasoned player mix. Nothing builds confidence like running in 3 or 4 second stringers into the ballgame early on; whereby they can prove they can hold their own at this level of play. Matt, it pays dividends for teams like Jasper, in the long run.
