Let's relate some stories about great players, I will start--------From 1950-1953, Ken Hall lead Surgarland High School with 11,232 yards rushing. In his senior year alone he rushed for 4,045 in 12 games! He once gained 520 yards on 11 carries in a single game....That averages 47 yards per run. Ken never made big headlines as a college player however.

Strait is the best I've seen in person, and Rodney Pedraza off that same team may be the best high school LB I've ever seen

Toby070 you're right about that. Pedraza made all state middle linebacker two years running first team. His senior year alone he had I believe 180 takles. He went to UT on a baseball scholarship and is currently pitching in the Japenese Pro baseball league.
Strait played football for Baylor.

To: Eye of the Tiger: Steve Wooster accumulated almost 6,000 yards in three years. As a Sophmore(1964), Jasper was picked to take State that year and they had a "stop Wooster" week with rallies every night in Jasper. Chief Wilson decided to let the Sophmore loose on them. He ran for 356 yards that night and SIX touchdowns! You know, the next two years Jasper did not bother to even have a stop Wooster week! I saw Steve in the grocery store this week, he is doing fine.

Thanks Old Card. He has always been one of my favorites. Many great stories from Texas HS football. One of the reasons I love it so much. Nice to know he is doing well.

Old Card Steve worster was the best back out of the wishbone for Texas. I remember That National Championship game Against Arkansas. After that game their Cotton Bowl victory was just icing on the cake.

Old Green, I watched several Cuero playoff games his senior year, and he had an unreal nose for the ball. It seemed like he made every tackle in the state championship game against McGregor.

Best I've ever seen is Eric Dickerson. He may be the best free safety to ever play high school football in Texas also.

Another great back was Burt Cone from Pasadena(1958). Burt had great speed and was very shifty. Burt tore a knee up and was not able to continue as a College star after his first year.

I was at the Cuero-McGregor game in '87...a great game considering the predictions it would be a blowout. The talent on that Cuero team was unbelievable.
