Let's get serious for a moment here. I would like to ask for your prayers for Coach Wade Birchum, the Tarpons Def. Coordinator. Last week, he was diagnosed with a malignant cancerous tumor in his sinus cavity. That is why he was not on the sidelines this past Friday night (he was at the game in a wheelchair on the track, but left at halftime). Tomorrow morning (Monday), he goes in for surgery in Galveston. The surgery will be followed by radiation treatments. It's not known how long Coach will be out, but please join me in wishing him a speedy recovery and pray that everything turns out for the best.

TFINT, any word on how the coach's surgery went? My thoughts and prayers have been with him and his family(including the team). God bless

Heard today that he went in for examination and bloodwork. Surgery won't be for a couple of weeks. If docs allow, he hopes to be on sidelines this Friday night.

I was wondering why he was coaching Friday night. All I know that it it couldn't of been good, due to the reaction other coaches, going up to him as if consoling him. I thought maybe it was a death in the family. So any news? I will continue to pray for him and his family.

It is amazing how this board comes together! We can be down right nasty at times, then something real happens and all come back to reality. We are all just humans playing/watching a game. My best wishes and prayers go out to this coach, family, team, community. Rally around him and give the support that God intended us to give. May the good Lord watch over him and bring him back to the sidelines quick!

TFINT, please keep us updated!I'll see what I can do, but I got the information from one of PIs fans on RGV Sports. I'll ask around though for updates in the upcoming weeks since i've read that the surgery won't take place for another couple of weeks.

I think some of the Smithville fans/players need to know his condition as well since he was coaching there prior to his coming to Port Isabel.
