I thought a while back that this was gonna be the opener for both teams. As a result I was leenin toward G-P mainly because they'll be the home team(Very tough at home). But since Sinton plays week 0 against Raymondville, they'll have them first game kinks worked out and be ready to roll.So I think I'll go with Sinton.Havin that one game under their belts should give them the edge.

From what I've been listening to from GP fans and some in the know, GP will be vastly improved from last year. They're both bigger and faster. Couple that with all that tradition and you got a powerful reason to pick GP by 3. I hope otherwise, but alot depends on how well Sinton's line comes along. Don't forget GP regularly beats local 5A power CC Carrol.

If Coach Mitchell is keeping the same system in place, especially the off-season workouts and training regimens, I might change my mind. What have you seen 75?

System stays the same save for Mitchell hiring a strength coach.Offense and defense stay the same.

My ranking for GP for last year is:

initial: 9.852 w/opp: 16.762 fin w/pl: 17.762

Now, I'm gonna research GP some and come up with an adjusted ranking for both.

I'm done with mine and am calling Sinton by 8. Actually worked out 7.47 on the low and 17.43 on the high using data poll's figures. Beeville's fell in almost the same range and it ended up Sinton by 10 last season. Will be interesting to see if it translates from last seasons figures.

I'm gonna need a day to get some of the info I'm looking for. Check your yahoo, I RE'ded you.
Sinton by 10 vs Beelville? That's pretty accurate!

Umm, the ACTUAL score was by 11. In retrospect I would like to think I probably would have predicted about a 7-9 point spread. I didn't start using it until about week 8 last season, but when I went back and looked at Beeville today, it was within 1/2 point of the figures (low/hi) I got for G-P. Middle of the range was around 12 for both. The 8 point prediction is a determination figuring G-P's schedule is 1.5 times tougher than Sinton's(gut again), actually came out to 7.98. This would assume both got everybody back(because they're last season's figures), but may work out, we'll see. I've never tried it at the start based on last year before, and might have to make some other adjustments.

66, I did some adjustments and came up with the following numbers for Sinton-GP:

2002 preseason numbers:

Power ranking for Sinton: 21.078

Power ranking for GP: 21.995

How this is gonna play out, I don't know. If your curious to what kind of system I tried, I will email you. I struggled with a starting point and think (hope) a little bit of luck might make it work. I think I'm gonna try another district for last year's ranking to see if it works there, too. Hehe, some 'gut work' did come into play in some of this. On another note, I've followed GP football for some time since my wife is from Portland. We went to alot of their playoff games in the early '90's.

Definitely curious, check yahoo, I had a notion on the 4A to 3A thing. My adjustment brought Sinton's pf/pa ratio down from 5.34 to 3.99. G-P's went straight across as is at 2.85 for a difference of 1.14 x 7points=7.98.
The 7 to 17 range for Beeville and G-P were straight across with no adjustment.
On another note for me too, I have a daughter and son-in-law that live in Portland. Neither follow football much, but my daughter teaches Science at Sinton Jr. High anyway, so probably wouldn't if she did.

Right you were, my friend, right you were. That is too cool! By the way, if Sinton/G-P would have happened last season, Sinton might have beaten them by about 14, basing that on the Sinton over Beeville over G-P results alone, so mine wouldn't be very accurate. It gets better during the playoffs, and even then it can vary some. The reason for that is because of my early strength of schedule bug.

75, any opinion on the spread? G-P went out in the first round last season, I'm thinking they would have to do better than just improve to catch up unless we end up considerably weaker, but it's just a hunch.

I think Sinton can take em but it's gonna be a close game.I'd figure around 3
or 4 points. But I'll have a better idea after Sinton plays Raymondville.
