Anyone have the story on Hempstead. They have a bunch of lettermen back from last year. How have they done this season? I know Newton blew them out in the 2nd game but they beat Montgomery (4A) and Brookshire (a good 2A). They lost to East Bernard also.
Let's hear from some posters who have played them or seen them play.

They always have athletes.Maybe the new coach can mold them into perennial winners.

dangerous. o-line is suspect, but their backs are very good when they want to be. the QB could be very special, but does not seem to be very involved in the offense. Toss it back and then lead through. good way to get your qb hurt.

Coach Quillen did a good job there. he did things right. it is just a tough place to get things going in the right direction. too many distractions for the kids from the community, peers, etc.

Hempstead is trying to build up their program. Had gotten down to about 18 players under previous coach. He had scheduled pre district games with Montgomery(4A and improved), Newton, Royal(about same as Hempstead), East Bernard, and LaGrange. Very hard schedule in a rebuilding time. Bellville, Sealy and Columbus are in the same district so they had to play them. New coach, Chris Cauley, seems to be a great motivater and has a larger number of kids playing but they have a long way to go.
