Rio Hondo is coming off a loss against Raymondville 21-13 with the Bobcats making a comeback near the end, but time ran out on them.

Meanwhile, Port Isabel comes in 1-0 with a very close 41-40 overtime win over 16-3A D1 favorite Lyford, which by the way, could have easily been 42-41 in favor of Lyford.

The game is on Thursday (yes another Thursday game for Port Isabel) at 7:30 in Port Isabel. If anyone wants to go, South Padre is nearby! Go have a beer after the game!

I have attended 2 games between these two, one in Rio Hondo and one in Port Isabel. Rio Hondo won both times i went to see these programs in action.

This season though PI should win and maybe by a couple of scores. These two met it was usually for the district title but one is now 3a, Rio Hondo.

Port Isabel was on a bit of a losing streak to Rio Hondo. Until last season's win for the Tarpons over the Bobcats, the Tarpons hadn't beaten Rio Hondo since 2013. And the Bobcats played the Tarpons pretty tough last year (27-24) despite the Bobcats not performing as well as they were predicted to before the season started.

But now that the ship has been righted in Port Isabel, the Tarpons should be back to their winning ways over the Bobcats, et. al.

In last week's game vs. Lyford, the Tarpons finished with 512 yards rushing on 56 carries, and 540 total yards. 2 Tarpon RBs ran for over 100 yards, with a 3rd RB gaining 85 yards. The Tarpon QB also ran for over 100 yards.

RH not able to stop the run at all, PI tried passing and qb sack and fumble as he scramble otherwise PI might of score on opening drive. But this is good they'll showing willing to pass some but right now RH can't stop PI run game.

When it comes time to show ability to pass later in season you'll need that 4th thing to happen because they work on it during the season. Run games looks great and should be the bread and butter. Rio Hondo with another Atkinson at qb looks pretty good running their offense.
