Since both Jasper and Everman were beaten Friday night should they move down in the rankings? Any thoughts and comments are welcomed.

Both were beaten by very good teams, I see no reason for them to drop on any poll except the Ap. That one is mostly a popularity contest anyway. But, you never know what they're thinking.

I dont how good the team Everman was playing but I know that Jasper lost to a very good Strake Jesuit team and they also didnt have there qb cause he was hurt so I see no reason why they should drop.

I think that Mathis should be in the top 10!!!!. The way they played on Friday racking up 503 yards on offense and the sophmore QB making a name for himself. Why not???? Mathis is going to upset a whole lot of teams in district. I don't want to say any names. (cough)ontsin!!!!!!! LOL!!! Your going to be hearing from this sophmore Qb a whole lot!!!

Hey man, we gotta put our heads together and come up with a catchy name for this battle. The "real" pirates thing is a little lame, I think. Something like the "Broadside" or "Rattlin Sabers" and such. Get fans on both sides to think up a good one. What cha think?

Sinton66,

You could get a nice looking pirate flag and battle for the Jolly Roger, with the winning school getting to keep the flag for a year.

Pretty sure both already have one, but it's a good idea. Something like that is exactly what I had in mind. Maybe a classy model of a Pirate Ship? Oh, and it could be called "The Mutiny" or something, arrrgh matey!

I think both Jasper and Everman will remain in the top 5 and will be in the top 3 by the end of the regular season. Kennedale and Strake Jesuit did a nice job knocking them off, but they awoke sleeping giants in both teams....

Forget all of that.....i'd like to see how far Rio Hondo falls in the Harris Rankings, and how much Port Isabel picks up after Port Isabel's blowout win over Rio Hondo.

In all honesty, Sinton should be #1.....with Newton and Burnet right behind.

I get the impression that Burnet is a tad overrated, I have all along, but then again what do I know? Congrats to Marlin, and Kennedale also on Fridays showings! Lol @ AP having Forney 3, that sounds about right! And I would think that Sinton should be first, only becuase they seem that they are more of a fighting team than Newton to me. When exactly will Newton be truly tested??

PPHSfan, you were pretty close. From a strictly data view, I can see this. Data Poll gets more accurate as the season progresses. We all need to understand that the predistrict and district contests are different animals. After the first week of district, the polls will start to level out and begin to give a better look. There are so many intangibles such as key injuries, field conditions, even no pass-no play effects that no poll can be 100% accurate. At best they are merely something to talk about between games. I'd almost bet that Everman is GLAD to get that "target" off their chests. We sure don't want it.

They've got Bridgeport as #40. I realize we'll drop because of the loss on Friday night, but ONE loss and we're down to 40? That seems a trifle severe.

5. JasperI agree spirat-9, until Newton plays a tough opponent like Marlin or Reagan no number 1 yet. Sinton and Burnet are close almost a tie IMHO. If Newton goes on to beat Jasper and stays undefeated I'll reconsider.

The big rises and falls this early are due almost entirely to how a team does against the predicted "spread" from the week before. If you were picked to win by 40 but lost by 6, that's a wider margin than normal, and will cause severe changes in a strictly data view. You will see it start to level out as soon as district play begins. Basically as a tool, Data Poll is a good source this early, but you have to use common sense with it too. Once the playoffs start, all the level of competition arguments start to disappear, and it gets VERY useful.
