Talked to head East Bernard baseball coach Tony Cruz (a graduate of Columbia) told me Wednesday at the doctors office that he will be stepping down to coach junior high sports in the fall. EB made the playoffs this year with a 4th place finish in 24-3A and plays Anderson-Shiro in a three game series which starts Friday in EB. A good program that makes the playoffs just about every year. EB won state in 1994-95 under then coach Kerry Brandl. Have known Tony quite a few years while I was writing sports at the Wharton Newspaper. He lost three starting pitchers this year with injuries.
