Cameron ISD Board of Trustees on Monday night unanimously approved a recommendation from Cameron ISD Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles to hire Rick Rhoades as head football coach and athletic director. Rhoades previously spent 7 years at Cameron Yoe High, running up an 82-17 record and taking the Yoemen to 5 state title games in 7 years, winning 3 championships. He has spent the past 5 years at Class 5A Gregory-Portland, where he posted a 26-23 record with the Wildcats, but never made the playoffs. After announcing a potential retirement in December, Rhoades will quickly get back into the coaching ranks when he takes the reigns beginning Monday. He will replace his own replacement here, taking over for Tommy Brashear, who remains with the district. Brashear went 41-19 during his 5-year run. Rhoades meanwhile has spent 17 years as a head coach and has posted a 150-61 career record. He beat out a field of 39 applicants to win back the job.
