El Campo ISD has experienced a double tragedy after two Seniors from El Campo High School were lost in accidents over the weekend…
Friday evening, Senior Johnicycia Polk was in a fatal car accident on Highway 71 and then on Saturday night, Senior James Russell O’Canas was also involved in a fatality.
In a statement released to social media and the press, El Campo ISD Superintendent Kelly Waters said, “The students and staff will react in different ways to the deaths of both of these fellow Ricebirds. We should all expect and try to understand that there will be a variety of emotions and responses to what has occurred. The most important thing we can do is to be supportive and encourage the open expression of feelings."
"On-campus, we have implemented a plan for responding to these tragic events focused on helping our students and their families. Our counselors will be available to students who need special attention and support. We will try to maintain as normal a routine and structure as the situation and people allow, and we encourage you to do the same."
"If you feel that you or your child or family needs some assistance, please contact us, and we will do everything that we can to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school at 979-543-6771."
