Matt Turner has retired. That is all I know at this point.

I think Alan Metzel deserves to be promoted, if he wants the job. Just my two cents.

I already see people posting that we need to hire a young guy with fire the way Traylor was 20 years ago. Good luck with that. People like Traylor are one in at least a hundred thousand, if not one in a million.

Don't disagree that Metzel should be in the hunt. But I hope they open it up and see who applies. I think this would be a sought after position. New school, athletes out the ying yang. We would get some good apps.

Yes! If the job is TRULY OPEN there will be some very good, proven coaches out there that would apply. I just hope the school board doesn't just hire somebody within without considering those who apply. Personally, I'd like to see them hire a proven head coach from the outside.

Best of luck. I know you guys will find that special coach. One that reflects the Buckeye tradition.

That's funny but I think John Kitna would be a good fit

I wouldn’t sleep on Nick York. He was a Class of 2004 Buckeye grad if I remember correctly. Spent some time as Celina’s WRs coach and passing game coordinator, including having a HUGE part in one of our most dynamic/prolific offenses we’ve ever had in the 2015 state finals team. He’s a young, talented offensive-minded guy. You’d need someone to come in and get the defense up, but I can assure you, under York, the Buckeyes would score points in spades.

Coach York is currently on staff at Paul Pewitt and they had a decent year

Yep, he’s the QBs coach, I believe. Has a big hand in the offense. I know this, Celina’s offense hasn’t been remotely close to what it was in 2015, when York was on staff here, and not all of that is because of lack in talent. He was an inventive play caller, in the passing game especially, and it’s been missed since he left.

Nick York, last I heard, is now a Wing-T advocate. Rumor has it that he tried to get Gilmer to run it when he was here.

We need new ideas. What we do was innovative in its time. We are much to predictable now. I see other teams run plays now, that I think, wow wish we would do that.

Good gosh, yes. Celina is in the same boat, man. The Buckeyes have so much talent that you'd love to see a young, innovative, creative mind come in there and let that talent loose. The talent gap has closed significantly on Gilmer, in my opinion, over what it used to be in the past, so you've got to find an advantage somewhere else. Gilmer has a good starting point for whoever comes in to take over.

Alan Metzel just became the new head coach / athletic director for Gilmer.
