View Full Version : How awful was the big 12 this year?

The whole conference collectively won 1 (ONE, UNO) game against a power 5 team with a winning record this season, including 1-5 in bowl games and getting embarrassed in the playoff again

Ouch

Yea, but the longhorns were the team that won the game. They are back, baby!

Typical aggy.... can't talk about their own body of work, so have to go with conference talk. All I care about is Texas. And, under Herman Texas is 3-0 in last three bowl games. Aggy... they are 2-3 in last 5 bowl games. Great job.

And if you want to talk records & such, here is the only record that should matter between Texas and aggy fans.. actual HEAD TO HEAD:
https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/aEcB6bHYetHeWvs29DiJ5BeDM8A=/0x0:450x300/1200x800/filters:focal(0x0:450x300)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/assets/803266/Texas_over_A_M.jpg

Furthermore, how about the big boy Bowls... you know, like the Rose Bowl, where Texas actually won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in 2005. How does aggy do in big bowls:
Has A&M ever won the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or Rose Bowl? If so, how many? They are 1-2 in those bowls. WOW! So many appearances..hahaha! The one being their 1939 National Championship. Where they wearing leather helmets then? They’ve never even played in Rose or Fiesta bowl. And yes, their lone win was 81 years ago... vs Tulane, who they beat by a single point 14-13. Whoopy & gig'em. Truly laughable.

And, going into this bowl season, how impressive is this:
Texas A&M is the only bowl eligible school with ZERO wins against teams with winning records in Football AND Basketball.
Combined Record of Teams Beaten:
Football 27-57 (0.321)
Basketball 14-25 (.0359)

How about a fact from this year:
aggy P5 wins (opponent’s record)
Arky 2-10
Ole Miss 4-8
Miss St 6-6, congrats on the big win
S Carolina 4-8
.... so impressive aggy, and you want to talk crap today? Laughable... And when they play a great team with a pulse.. say like LSU.. 50-7!! Seriously.. 50-7? Again, laughable.

But what really matters to most... the big enchilada. The national titles. Who won the last national title for a college team in Texas. Yep, Big Daddy:
http://interactives.dallasnews.com/2015/swc-anniversary/images/TEXAS.JPG

And of course aggy just leans on the SEC for bragging, and does nothing for itself. Just typical. As a poster said recently over this conference bragging stuff:
When we get down to brass tacks, I don't give a crap. That's because it would take so long for the tide of history to turn, and an impossible century-long series of extraordinary events to prompt it, that I'm secure in the notion that not only I, but also my son and my grandchildren, will pass into the nether distance long before (if ever) A&M can make a case on the merits against Texas.

Nevertheless, the arguments over who has better losses, better conference, blah blah blahs… is just as amusing as it is pathetic. But nothing is more pathetic than conference pride. You know what the thing is about A&M's chest pumping about being in the SEC? It doesn't mean a stinking thing. If you don't accomplish it yourself, then it doesn't matter.

I don't give a rat's ass about what anybody else in the Big 12 does or doesn't do. Yes, I know it can matter when it comes to SOS, but I've always believed that if Texas just wins, then the rest of the sh*t will take care of itself. And, my desire to "upgrade" when the next balloon goes up on realignment won't change my position very much, if at all. I want better markets and more fun matchups.

Ultimately, if aggy wants to thump their chests about competing in the vaunted SEC, so be it. Because unless they can start flying some pennants of their own, whatever Alabama, LSU or any of the rest of that gang of thieves does doesn't mean a crapping thing. And the smart fan knows that.

When it comes to football, the conference doesn't make Texas; Texas has made whatever conference it is in. It's a magnet for attention. This still will be the case wherever it ends up.

Hook'Em!!!!

And let's be honest... you can talk conference crap all you want.. but most important is how is your OWN team doing? Are they winners? Through the test of time, have they been a top winning program? Poor aggy.. I don't see you on this top ten list example of all time wins. Nowhere to found. Why not? Looking up at Big Daddy yet again. Love it! Hook'Em!!!

Since we just ended a decade lets talk about recent history:

A&M 84-46 since 2010 (8 years in SEC)
t.u. 71-57 since 2010 (10 years in BDF)

A&M 10 bowl games 6-4 record
t.u. 7 bowl games 5-2 record

A&M AP Top 20 finishes - 4 (Best #5)
t.u. AP Top 20 finishes - 2 (Best #9)

So why do you want to spend an hour disrespecting your "non-rival"? Texas should concentrate on trying to beat Zero U. We will concentrate on Bama, LSU, and Auburn.

Big 12. Awful

Let's get back on the right track with aggy... AWFUL. Last conference championship? 1998

Record against rival (wait, not a rival.... scared of Big Daddy/LHN & ran off to SEC, yet even in new conference the usual mediocrity, where they have NO conference championships): 37-76-5 (uhh..dominated).

Always love to see Texas fans point to the all time season series as total domination. Texas was the flagship school and coed as well with the offering of over 100 scholarships and they were able to land a majority of the best players. A&M was an all male basically Military school and not able to compete with Texas for the best talent.
Fast forward to 1973 when limits were imposed to make way for equal distribution and sending more money to Women's athletics.

If my math is correct 39 games were played until 2011 and Texas has 20 wins and A&M has 19.

When a even playing field came to be the dominance from the early years is not there.

My team against your team 76-37-5. Clear indication of whose program has got it done over the other... Excuses are EXCUSES... you had same opportunities to get it done, but didn’t, period.

And more important than anything are championships. Last football national title for a Texas School: Big Daddy.. TEXAS

And while we are on the subject of what really matters... championships:

Texas conference titles: 32
Aggy conference titles: 18

All time winning percentage:
Texas: .704
aggy: .602

The OVERALL winning is what makes you. Excuses or not looking back are for those that are weak & want to avoid it... We don’t look back at Brady with his championships & give him the GOAT proclamation? Yeah, the total body of work COUNTS. And poor aggy can’t keep up with UT. REALITY IS REALITY.....

Bless your heart. t.u. is in free fall and their fans and administration can only talk about stuff from last century.

Recruiting is weak (see above for the reason why).

No matter how hard I try, I can’t make myself care about football that happened prior to me being born, much less before I really starting following football with any seriousness.

In fact, I became a Texas A&M fan in 2009 when they paid me to go to school there and get a degree. So pre-2009, I don’t really give a crap what happened

Texas beat Utah and Ok State, which is two wins against P5 teams with winning records, OU beat Baylor twice, so there's two more, KSU beat Iowa State and OU, so I don't know where you're getting this crap from anyways. For myself..I despise the politics and it has never been about the educational side of things. Just football. The history and tradition of it all. Agree to disagree. I think it’s weird to go around and pound your chest about something you have no actual ties to and talk mad crap to people who actually have a dog in the fight. It’s real easy to latch onto a perennial winner and pop off all day long. I appreciate fandom more when it didn’t originate because of a teams success.

I went to school to get a degree. I happen to like football and started following Texas A&M ball at that time. I was never the most hardcore Aggie and I’m still not to this day, but I do support my school. Prior to college, I had no collegiate affiliation and was pretty indifferent. I guess I actually considered myself a longhorn fan growing up when I was a kid? Idk, I was a kid so it didn’t make much difference to me at the time.

I really have nothing at all against UT (and I’m not a subscriber to the tu thing). In fact, I nearly went to school there. The only reason I didn’t is because TAMU is the only school in Texas that has the undergrad degree I wanted. I have many friends and colleagues who are Texas grads and have nothing but respect for the school. I’m actually considering getting my mBa from Texas and I’d love for my son to go there some day

Mainly, I just like stirring the pot. And bigcountry is a supreme assh*le so I like to get under his skin. Otherwise, it’s all good

I actually worked for UT a little over a decade ago. But that's another story. Weird? Latching on? lol. It's about the game of football, the players and coaches that led them. Supporting a team through the highs AND lows, just as I have done here in Wimberley for close to 20 years. As far as UT, I did not grow up in the Austin area but Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine gave me a closer connection to the teams, which was considered exclusive at that time. I don't expect you to understand.

Seldom do people find a school to be a fan of without having attended that school, having some kind of ties or it just being a highly successful local team. If you are one of the few then more power to you.

To me, it’s usually the same as anybody running around yelling roll tide or a pats or lakers or warriors or Yankees fan. And I can spot them from a mile away (bigcountry/scoop). Got no respect for that

There's nothing wrong with being a t-shirt fan -- A&M joined a conference that is loaded with them. Everyone in Louisiana roots for LSU whether they went there or not. Same for Tennessee and Georgia and Arkansas. If you live in Alabama, you are expected to root for either Auburn or Alabama even if you've never set foot on either campus. Same for Mississippi -- you are expected to root for Ole Miss or MSU.

And it’s equally lame

You’re lame. You’re truly a lame punk on this board... all disguised behind a keyboard. The worst kind of punk. Such an egotistical mouth. No wonder you can’t understand about fans being fans regardless of whether they went to school there or not. You’re ignorant & not worth the time. And I am tired of your crap about me not having a degree from Texas. I earned that degree & you can kiss my you know what if it’s hard for you to accept. But you’re too busy running your crap mouth to understand anything. Again, just a soft little weasel behind a keyboard. Come by, and I’ll show the degree on the wall, to the school you had no chance of getting into, because your a dumb little punk...

Lol, just take a picture of it and show us.... shouldn’t be too hard. I’m sure it’s right there in the shrine right next to the VY game worn jock strap

I've never understood the whole conference chest pounding either. Everyone talks about the BIG, BAD SEC, but including this season's "Bowl Challenge Cup", they've only ever won it three times. The Mountain West and Conference USA have won more of these Cups than anyone but no one ever claims they're the best conferences. They won four in a seven year span and three in a four year window. So.....where's their chest thumping been? Lol

No... VY gave that jock strap to you & Reggie McNeal after winning the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, figuring that would be the only taste, though truly sour, that you & him would get of a national title in Collie Station.

I'm late to the party. Yes the big 12 was pretty lousy this year, but since this thread has derailed and is not about the Big-12 anymore, ill give my .02 on the t-shirt topic.

So Saggy you are telling me that if a person decides not to go into massive student loan debt and instead decided to become a tradesman, lets say an electrician. That now he is not allowed to root for a college football time without being "pathetic" in your eyes? Fandom does not work that way. Fandom can simply be, "as a kid, i like the blue field Boise State plays on, so i became a fan." I promise if you asked Jimbo Fisher, or Kellen Mond or anyone affiliated with any college program if they are okay with a person rooting for their team even thought they didn't attend the school, they would be honored.

Stop gatekeeping fandom. Makes you look like an entitled prick.

I don’t care who you are a fan of as long as you can be cool about it. I just find it comical that it’s always the people with no real ties who are the loudest talkers (e.g. bigcountry)

What’s wrong with that? What exactly is the risk in posting your diploma online? They are literally made to be presented on walls and there are hundreds online. Worst case scenario somebody knows your name and what you studied? Majority of folks on here already know me in person anyways. If you’re that scared just black out your name. I’ll send you mine if you send me yours. Deal?

But we both know you can’t take that deal....

My favorite thing about t shirt fans is they love to point out how A&M has no accomplishments of their own and that we have to ride the SEC’s coattails..... but there has never been a bigger case of having no accomplishments and having to ride someone’s coattails than being a t shirt fan.

Just think about it.... no degree, yet you come on here to tell us how successful “your” school is.... LMAO

Your obsession with Texas A&M is 10x more intense than mine ever thought about being. I dont care about whatever is going on here, or really anything related to the corps. I wasn’t involved with that, along with many other things that go on... And I damn sure don’t have a weird stash of A&M related photos like you do, especially soaking wet dudes laying on their back.

Keep running that mouth... And no, don’t bother on the degree, we really don’t need your types anywhere near our campus. Doubt you could ever get in anyway... obviously too dense. Very proud of my degree from there, and great memories as one of my best friends played on the defensive line. Tickets to OU game every year was sweet. Lived off campus with 2 high school buds, rode in on the shuttle. Great school in a real city, not a dump. Again, go elsewhere... you’re the perfect little aggy... stay there. Gag’Em!!

This is some middle school behavior. Hey saggy since you think comparing diplomas is such a measure on life, how do you feel about comparing tax returns? You keep belittling "t-shirt" fans like you are some superior specimen. Your character on display on this board over the course of time is evidence that you are not that impressive dude. The evidence of your lack of character says much more about you than a piece of paper. College is easy, anyone could do it.

Lol, t shirt fans getting their panties in a wad and telling me how big of a jerk I am.... Meanwhile bigcountry’s maturity is on full display....

.... but what I think everyone other than him and I fail to realize is this is a message board and has no impact on real life. Him and I can both say whatever we want and I’m confident we are both unbothered. It’s called trolling.... he’s really good at it and so am I. I think in real life we would get along great....

I will agree to disagree that ‘college is easy, anyone could do it’.... I’ve seen plenty try and fail and I don’t know many that would say that... And we have now reached new lows if you want to compare careers, but we can go that route if you want to LMAO

The top 5 winningest programs in the state of Texas since Texas A&M joined the SEC (2012) based on total win/loss record:

1) Texas A&M 68-36
2) Baylor 66-38
3) TCU 63-40
4) Houston 62-40
5) Texas 58-45

Baylor would be running away with this if not for a 1-11 season....
