Gonna work on these throughout the off-season, its fascinating to see names of schools that no longer exist, and schools that were once tiny and now are huge.....

this was a drastic realignment 4A expanded to 32 districts, PVIL schools added in....some schools that chose to consolidate early actually jumped two whole classes due to integration

It looks like Matt has the large districts divided into zones. I was in high school during this era and district 14 was divided this way. Realignments always came out in late October.

That 1968/69 realignment was a big one.
So odd seeing some current big schools like Cedar Hill, Aledo, etc. in 1A.
Also current largest 6A school in the RGV, Los Fresnos, in 2A with current 4AD2 Port Isabel.

BTW I went to Gonzales which was 3A at the time and we beat Refugio 3 out of 4 years.

Carthage
Jacksonville
Longview Womack
Longview Pine Tree
Sulphur Springs
Texarkana Dunbar
Texarkana Liberty-Eylau
Gilmer
Mount Pleasant
Gilmer went into the North Zone of this district and never won much (some seasons we only won one game) for the next 12 years. Finally, we dropped down to begin the 1980s and then made it to state in 1981 where we lost at Baylor Stadium to Cameron Yoe.

This was during my senior year @ Gonzales. We had some strange teams in our district. I met some folks from Laredo United the next year @ SWT and they were Class B. Now they have 4 large 6A schools. Lots of changes.

Matt, Where did you get the Class B alignment. Class B was never in Texas Football. Just checked out my old copies and couldn't find any Class B's until 1980 when Class 5A was added and Class B became Class A. Also Class B was any school under 125: 11-man, 8-man and 6-man leagues. Really great work. Well done.

Arges, how about sending a pm. Obviously I am from Gonzales too. played on the '63 team. 11-0-1. Tied PSJA but lost on first downs. Horrible way to go down. I remember those Refuge games too.

Did 2 teams make the playoffs in the early 60's? Sinton went unbeaten in district in 1960, 1962 and 1963. They lost to Refugio and Bishop in district in 1961 finishing 8-2 for season with no playoffs. 1962 Sinton loss in state semi's to Rockdale and in 1963 in region final to Fort Bend Dulles. Was Gonzales in same Division?

Gonzales moved up to 3A in 1962. Refugio and Sinton joined District 14-AAA in 1966.

I don't recall exactly what year it was, I'm 90% sure it was 1979 but Port Isabel and Edna played in the Region IV final where Edna won.
However, Edna was busted for using ineligible players and the victory was given to Port Isabel. Unfortunately for the Tarpons, Edna has already played in the Semi-final (don't recall if they won or lost) so the Tarpons never got the opportunity to play in the State Semifinal.
1979 is the only "undefeated" team in Port Isabel's school history.
