View Full Version : Advice for newbies

If you are new to the board this year, please read the following advice:

1. When posting, please use English. Nobody likes to read a post with numerous grammatical errors.

2. Don't blindly bash other teams. If you feel your team is better, great. Support that with statistics and facts.

3. Refrain from using foul language. You will be banned.

4. If you choose to talk trash, at least have the guts to show back up after your team looses.

Veterans of 3adownlow, feel free to add as you see fit to this list.

Best of luck to all teams this year. :D

RANGER MOM,

You've been here longer than me, so I guess you qualify as a "veteran" in my book... wink

I'd like to add:

5. Take & pass a typing test!!

6. Using ALL CAPS. eek! ALL CAPS represents yelling & there should be NO YELLING on the downlow. Unless your RangerMom wink and have a point to make. :)

Anyone else have anything constructive to add??

Thanks for a constuctive list!

I don't think I have ever typed in all caps..have I?? I sometimes type a word in all caps to emphasize it (too lazy to go through the steps to make it bold or italicized) :D

But that was sweet of you anyway, (I hope you meant it as a compliment, because that's how I took it!!) :p

Good post 94. Being respectful of other "reasonable" opinions is a good way to get along on a board. Of course there are some "inside" jabbing between posters that many of us really enjoy.

Never EVER (I'm not yelling just emphasizing wink ) call a kid out by name and make disrespectful remarks. That is poor taste.

Hmmm... I'll second the post about not calling kids out by name. If you want to comment on how poorly someone played, there are several creative ways of doing so without getting personal. This is one courtesy our board has that I truly applaud.

Also, please refrain from talking about soccer, wink :p :)

That's a very good point, Jason.

Read down the board before you post a topic!!

(I have been guilty of that myself, in the past  )

I agree, pays to "scroll down" a bit before you post.

above all else, if you see someone that has over 175 posts... dont try and argue with them... you will have almost all of the board on you, and will not want to come back.

Ranger Mom

I think in one single post, a young Raymondville fan, who shall remain nameless :D , broke almost every one of these!! eek!

I believe that one of the bearkat fans from raymondville did do that. One bad apple ruins the bunch

Good rules to try to follow on here...but let's stop calling soccer a communist sport....we have kids in all schools that play that and it's really tacky and ignorant to call it that, just because you happen to like football better. Communist is a really ugly, ugly word to me.

sinton66
08-30-2003, 11:21 AM
Sorry, not gonna happen. On the other hand, if certain people would quit bringing it up, we'd have no reason to rant.

For newbies, here is the ultimate clue. When a guy named Matthew 328 or another named Jacket2001 tell you their "trigger finger" is itchy, that means they're fixing to ROM your dumb butt, so clean up your act! wink

We welcome all 3A people here as long as you keep it clean and mostly civil. Noise talking is cool, but don't get carried away with it. Just be prepared to back up your claims with stats and facts! The motto on the home page sums it up:
"Keep it clean, and enjoy!"

Old Tiger

Please be aware that it is difficult to properly express your true meaning when all you are doing is typing on a keyboard. Picture yourself on the receiving end to see how your words will affect others before posting your comments. Use the built-in smilies and such to assist you in getting your point across. Be sure that people KNOW you are joking about something as my young Raider friend did in the above post.

I'm sure nobody's gonna believe this, but I'm not upset Raymondville beat Sinton, in fact I sorta suspected it could happen. I don't see that as the defining game for Sinton. Starting this Friday, we get 4A Gregory-Portland, Cuero, and Rice. Pretty sure those will define the '03 Pirates for me. wink
