Why on earth would parents go to Florida and leave their 16 yo daughter home...I am assuming alone?????

Me and my little brother and sister stayed home alone when I was 16 and my parents went to Alaska...but this is a different world than it was then. There is no way I would leave my 16 year old home alone (to go out or stay home) - there would have to be an adult there!!

On a side note: When my parents were in Alaska we had a freak storm (tornado) hit the area - the hail knocked every single window out in the house. Imagine my parents surprise when they returned to find every window with plywood over it.

To me it just makes good sense. Let her have some girl friend over that you trust and leave it at that.

Uhh...HAVE A PARTY!!!!! Hello, her parents were clearly indicating that they wanted her to stay off the highway, and host a party at their house :D

Clearly these parents are completely out of their heads if they think their 16 year old is, a) staying home and b) old enough to be on their own. Did they leave the keys to the car and the credit car too?

I meant credit "CARD" If I was sixteen and home alone it would be Party Time! Thats why I was always home when my kids were sixteen and complete stupid heads!

Why not have her stay at a friend's or relative's house while the parents are gone?

This will be seen as "old fartish" (which I am), but the parents have abdicated their resonsibilities as parents. Of course there can be extenuating circumstances, but normally this should not happen.

I have a 16 year old son that I would trust alone for one night alone if I were somewhere local. He would starve to death though if I were gone a week.

As the father of a little girl myself, my views on this have changed somewhat. First I would tell her that she could have ONE friend stay with her. Then I would hire a security guard to patrol the area and be on the lookout for people like Jason... :p :p :p
