I'm fascinated by this experiment in Athens as they are starting school Monday and will only have a four day school week Monday-Thursday...makes for an interesting Friday on gameday for everyone..

We have several smaller schools in Missouri that are adopting this model. However, they're going to a Tues-Friday schedule to keep football Friday's normal. I cannot for the life of me figure out why Athens didn't do that. If there's one day of the week you want to have your kids grouped together and know where they are, it's Friday. They'll change that after this year, I bet.

The schools that do that here in Missouri are also still getting practice in on the Mondays off from class. Football teams are still meeting at their regular scheduled time and conducting workouts as usual. Don't know how UIL will rule on that in Texas, but they tend to keep a better structure and handle on things than MSHSAA does here in the Show-Me state.

Union Hill just north of here did this about five years ago.

The 6-man football team uses Friday as a travel day some weeks because its opponents are so far away.
