Congrats to the La Vernia Bears for advancing all the way to the State Final Four and a great season. They just ran into a hitting buzzsaw in the Argyle Eagles today.

Argyle scored 16 runs on 12 hits and no errors in this win today. Ricker did not have his best stuff, but managed to throw enough strikes to get the outs needed.

2015 Argyle graduate Hunter Markwardt of Okla. Christian University was drafted by the Phillies with their 13th pick(390 overall). He plays CF and was an outstanding player in many sports for the Eagles in his high school tenure at Argyle. We wish Hunter great success in all his future endeavors and a big congrats on being picked by the Phillies. Markwardt was an outstanding player and CF for Argyle on their 2015 State Championship team

It's been a long season and now there is only one game left.......a rematch for the State Championship between Argyle and Sweeny. Sweeny pitched Kiddy today in a 5-1 win over Kilgore......leaving their outstanding SS/RHP Homniok available for tomorrow's Final. I totally expect to see Homniok get the start.....he's got a great arm and can fire strikes. I also expect Argyle to start Sean Bolin tomorrow......he's got a great arm and can fire strikes. Sounds like a recording, huh?

Regardless of today's games and the scoring.....tomorrow should present a very tightly contested game for the State Championship between what IMO are the two best teams and two best baseball programs in Class 4A now......not withstanding Pleasant Grove in the same company. Carthage was soooo close to closing out Sweeny in the Region 3 Final but left the door open and giftwrapped a 4 run comeback by walking the bases loaded and two runs to allow Sweeny to advance. But good teams take advantage of mistakes and use those opportunities to win. Sweeny will show up tomorrow with great resolve to defeat Argyle and claim a State Championship. Will Argyle show up and play like the champions they have been for 2 yrs in Texas??? I think this game will capture the imagination of tons of curious baseball fans to see what will happen.....me included. GO EAGLES!!! Go win another one!!!

Argyle needs to play the same way they have been playing all season long.......smart, clean defense and putting the bat on the ball. They should not worry about what Sweeny will do, but concentrate on their own skills and capabilities. If the Eagles play flawless in the field again tomorrow, then they should be able to generate enough offense to win this State Championship game.....regardless of what Sweeny is able to do. In other words......IMO Argyle can only lose if they beat themselves by not playing up to their capabilities. That's my personal opinion and I think I'm correct in this thinking. They have Sweeny outmatched by position and in the batting lineup also. Go Get Em Eagles!! Go capture another State Title and possibly another National Championship. It would be a really GREAT THING!!

Sweeny pulled a fast one and kept their best pitcher for the championship game. That might change the approach Argyle takes. Homniok is an A&M commit. Even Ricky was surprised when he saw who was pitching for Sweeny today.

No doubt Homniok can throw......but he will be missed at SS when he's pitching. He can play only one position at a time and Argyle has the bats and the lineup to cause problems for any pitcher......even a very good one like Homniok. I personally think Homniok would be more valuable playing the SS position in the title game against Argyle instead of on the mound......but we shall see. If the Eagles continue to put the bats on the ball and play flawless defense in the field.....they will be tough to beat.

I don't think Argyle will have a problem hitting the fastballs. I'ma thinking Homniok relies mainly on spotting his fastball on the corners and also just trying to overpower the hitters with it. I'm sure he has other pitches he will mix in.....but in crunch time he will rely on that fastball.

I like the way Argyle did not hesitate to swing the bats freely today......instead of working the count and leaving the calls up to the homeplate ump. Sometimes it's best to go up there ready to swing at the very first strike you see....early in the count. Agressive at the plate is not a bad thing.....unless you chase bad pitches. For the most part all the Argyle hitters have an excellent eye and discipline at the plate.

The other strategy is to work the counts and make Homniok throw alot of pitches to wear him down. I'm not a real fan of this approach when you have a lineup and hitters like Argyle has. I'd rather see them attack the pitches and use their talents to put the ball in play to force the Sweeny defense to make plays. Homniok may be able to handle throwing 100 pitches with no problem anyway......he has a very strong and well developed arm.

You can pretty much guess that Sweeny will be relying on Homniok to carry the day for them tomorrow on the mound. I'm sure they will be very hesitant to pull him even if Argyle gets a good lead. Not sure who they have behind him to come in anyway......but may have a pitcher that can go a couple of innings. I don't see Sweeny pulling Homniok before 5 innings unless things go completely sideways. Otherwise they will try to win with him on the mound.

On the Argyle side of the fence......Sean Bolin has been very dependable throwing strikes and is 8-1 on the season. If he gets into trouble.....the Eagles have a number of pitchers that have the stuff to finish.....like Tate Van Poppel, for instance. Clearman is a lefty and can throw if needed.....so can Merka, Carter, Hogeboom, Gonzo, and a host of others. The Eagles just need to play smart, clean defense and swing that bat....and they will be fine.

Yeah, regal, I’ve kept up with this thread all season long because I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your updates, your play-by-play’s, and just your overall support for Argyle. And it’s just really interesting to me to follow a truly elite team, you don’t see many baseball teams be this dominant. Just too hard to do. So thanks for the updates. Congrats to the Eagles, the players, coaches, fans and community on back-to-back titles, truly is something!!

I posted a congrats 18 minutes ago. Well AFTER the game was over. You seem to have a complex or something. This is the weirdest thread I’ve seen in a long time.

Bizarre is the best way I can think to describe what happened last night.. I made a simple ROFL comment to Tejas (we comment on each other's post frequently) and I was laughing at his comment about Reg IV actually having reception when Reg 1 didn't - (cause we continually post that Reg 4 is the "forgotten region") it was more of a 'barb' making fun of US - had ZERO to do with Argyle. Good Lord, I was admonished and berated like I had slammed Argyle all season. I haven't made ONE negative comment - NOT ONE - and believe me, let's face it, there was an opportunity or two. Yes, Argyle has had outstanding teams recently, that's obvious. Congratulations to them.

I did make a post - I think a while back in support of the Sweeny Bulldogs, they are former district mates and we had some very tight football games with them and we struck up a friendly situation between the teams. It is still a free country, so yes, I supported a team that was going up against Argyle, I ask NO forgiveness for that. I'm not a cry baby and have pretty thick skin and quite frankly, I consider the source when I feel like I've been unjustly 'judged' but in this case, I all I can say is WOW... I would hope he got a good night sleep and rereads the post (where there was more than 1 conversation) and he realizes I had no mean spirited intentions in my post.
Now on to Friday.....

Yeah, regal, I’ve kept up with this thread all season long because I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your updates, your play-by-play’s, and just your overall support for Argyle. And it’s just really interesting to me to follow a truly elite team, you don’t see many baseball teams be this dominant. Just too hard to do. So thanks for the updates. Well ok, I guess so. Not real sure what a chickenhawk is...I haven’t kicked him, I was verbally “ whatever he did” and I just want to know what I did... honestly. I guess it’s ok to stir things up and disappear, just as long as you’re a gentle soul. Show up and explain what happened and then be done with it. That’s my thought.

If that is the case, I, myself am truly not worthy. Seriously dude...from what I get from this no one outside of the Argyle area is worthy. You need to read all of the history. If all it takes to set one off is a jest about audio game reception for region 4 compared to Region 1 then there are other issues here. Maybe you need to take a minute and see what exactly he was reacting to..I don't know, just a suggestion. Maybe read a bit further back and see where I mentioned he was a good guy.
